The clock has a constant +12 for memory so it is on all the time. There is another +12
that lights it up when the ignition is turned on. Then there is another +12 to tell it the
light are on so it should get brighter. And lastly, there is the black ground wire.
I have seen the wiring mixed up on these because of the proximinity to the HVAC controls.
Make sure you have the right wires connected and check to see if they power up properly.

There are a lot of us! You really do have to stop by P.J. Grady and
look around. You won't be going home without one or at least you will
be motivated to save up quicker. Yes he does sell Deloreans and since
the one you saw is close by he might even look it over for you. If you
have the last 6 digits of the vin he could probably give you it's
history since he probably saw the car at some time in it's life. He
can help you locate one if you don't see any you like. The local clubs
are also a good place to look as some members sell or know of cars for
sale. If you can make it, there is a holiday social 12/08 in Princeton
where you could met other owners and maybe find the car of your
dreams! For more info on the dinner contact Gary Gore. His E-Mail is

Island. $20,000 for a beater is HIGH. Without looking at the car but
from your description I would guess it to be worth about $15-17,000
depending on mechanical condition. Don't forget you cannot blow the
budjet buying the car, you must also have some money budjeted for
repairs and maintaince, tax, and insurance. Fixing "all those little
thigs" can quickly add up to $$$$. You must learn to inspect for the
BIG things like a rusted out frame, collision damage, engine trouble,
and transmission problems. These are the "budjet busters". If Rob
can't look over the prospective car find an owner who can help. Don't
go crazy over a low mileage car as in cars this old mileage isn't
everything, condition and how it was cared for become very important.

Don't know for sure what the reserve price on the car is. But
according to the archives when the car was for sale @ DMC
Houston back in 1998, the price was $125K. Granted that also
came with a full restoration, which now that the car is selling on
eBay as it is now, does not..
The car on eBay does indeed appear to be the same one
featured in the DeLorean Gold Portfolio. From major items, like
the gold rims, down to the exact same bends in the wires in the
engine compartment.
But there are a couple of things that I'm curious about. The
photos in the book show the words "ZWEI TURBO" written on the
rear facia, and on the stainless below the rear. Perhaps this was
later removed by DMC when deciding upon side treatments &
designs. As are the 2nd items here which appear to be the
brass badges that say "Twin Turbo Prototype" all over the car. If
this was used for display purposes durring shows and such,
then it would make sense.

Yes the clock will always have a feed to it so it can keep the time.
But if the #'s should stay lighted when the key is off, that's a no.
Of course that doesn't matter for me anyways since my clock
refuses to keep the correct time. It always runs too fast.
Stick with it, I know the EXACT feeling that you have! Think of
things like this. When a car has been sitting for a long time, it's
been asleep. And just like anybody else, she'll be groggy when
she wakes up. After all, nobody wants to leave a warm bed :)
Just be persistant, and things will turn around!

We need to define "ignition problems". The symptoms you are describing
are "starting system problems". If the motor won't crank and the car
is dead you don't have ignition problems. Load test the battery. Clean
and inspect ALL of the big connections from the battery to the
alternator to the frame and to the starter. Pay particular attention
to all grounding straps and their conections to the frame. Make sure
there is no paint under the lugs and everything is clean, shiny, and
tight. If you feel the car "pulling back" when the A/C comes on or the
cooling fans start and stop the Fanzilla does eliminate that by
sequencing the cooling fans on and off. If you still have the Dusey
alternator it is recomended that you upgrade to a larger Motorola or
Delco. The "acting funny" you noticed earlier could have been caused
by the bad conection causing the voltage on the ignition system to
drop affecting the smoothness of the engine. (This is the best I can
do by "Remote Diagnostics".) Cheap insurance these days is one of
those jumper battery packs. I bought one at Costco for $55 and not
only has it saved me but when I go to car shows it is always easier to
help someone without having to "jump" from the car. The first time you
use it and save a tow it pays for itself!

The clock has 4 wires going to it:
Black = Ground
Purple = +12V ALLWAYS (same fuse as Lighter)
LightGreen w/ White = +12V after ignition
Red w/ Orange = +12V from lights
When they are connected as they should be the clock should
illuminate when you turn on the ignition. When you switch
on your lights it should dim, just like the AC-panell lights
in their original configuration.
Just remove the plate around the shifter, unplug the clock
and use a testlight to determine if the plug is wired up properly.

Well, last thursday I went home in the evening ("home" is Kent), to pick
up my DeLorean and its fresh new MOT certificate. Drove it back to
Reading without a hitch (110 miles). Gawd Rich's wheels need balancing!
(I have Rich's wheels on my car ATM because my tyres were shot). Apart
from the lock barrel link arm which I know is hanging loose, and the
front panel for the stereo, there were almost no rattles in the car.
Very noisy though, largely thanks to the gap in the seal of the
passenger window. Took me till past Sevenoaks to realise that massive
upside-down triangle sends heat to my feet :-)
Anyway, I drove it to work the next day, just to excercise the car you
understand, and had to escort no fewer than 5 groups of people outside
to look at it. It was covered in grime from the workshop so didn't look
altogether pretty, and was beginning to exhibit an annoying tendency to
hiccup and cough at any point in between stone cold and hot - I'll be
putting my warm-up reg back on it, thanks Rich! (long story).
On the way home, I drive through a very narrow country lane, and what
with the DeLorean being so bloody wide, and me not being used to driving
a left-hand-drive car, sods law dictated that somebody came the other
way. It was at this point that I "discovered" one of the unique features
of the gullwing doors that I'd never specifically noticed before. It's
really easy to reverse up a narrow country lane when you have your head
out the side looking backwards (remember driving on the left means I'm
next to the side of the road). Got a wave from the kids in the Shogun
that wanted to go past :-)
Next morning, my good friend James joined me at home to be my passenger
for the day trip to Peterborough (100 miles) and a "boys toys" meet
involving all manner of radio controlled things, mini jet-engines, and
plenty of other cool cars. Before we left, we gave the car a rub-down
with white spirit - boy is that stainless easy to clean! Just have loads
of cheap clean tea-towels to hand! The trip up was uneventful, but I
could tell James was enjoying it at least as much as me :-) Here's a
photo of me exhibiting a new phenomenon: DeLorean Hair Syndrome. DHS
afflicts those of us with hair that refuses to lie flat, and given the
somewhat "velcro" nature of the headliners in the DeLorean, prompts said
hair to head skyward....

The trip home was more eventful because roughly 10 miles from Reading,
my high-beams gave out, just as I was approaching a corner with someone
behind. I slammed the anchors on and pulled over with my hazards
flashing. Luckily I know the roads and drove the rest of the way on
low-beam. The fuse had overheated gluing itself (though not too badly)
into the socket. A trip to Halfords at lunchtime yesterday for a box of
assorted fuses and she's back up and running with some spare fuses in
the relay compartment!
It's dropped below freezing right now, and the car still has the rain on
her from yesterday (I didn't get the cover on in time). It has now
frozen and the whole car looks as if it's covered in glass beads!
Anyway, this weekend sees Rich reassembling his rear quarter - Chris N
has worked his magic on the panel, and Rich's car is catching mine up
condition-wise at a fair rate of knots! In fact, given the state of his
fascias and interior, it's probably surpassed mine now :-( All he has to
do now is get it running!
My job this weekend is sort out that blasted drivers door lock as it's
going to give me the need for therapy in the not too distant future! I'm
also going to take out the broken angle drive and have a hunt through it
to see what I can do (if anything). I'm also going to have a shot at my
totally knackered fuel tank sender. It's getting embarassing filling the
car up with random amounts of fuel when I don't need to!

I asked this question a while ago. The answers I got were there was no set
place for the light to turn on meaning one car the light turns on and you
have a gallon left. Another car the light goes on and you better look for a
place to pull over because there is no fuel left in the tank.

My VIN 06960 original sender turns on the light at almost exactly 2
gallons left. After having a this same discussion on the DML ealier
this year, I belive many of us came to the conclusion that the OEM
senders turned on the lights at completely random times, if at all.
It could be a bad adjustment in the sender (I think John Hervey said
he could adjust the timing on it) or it could also be corroded
contacts in the sender.
While I do not have a TankZilla, while at the tech session in
Cleveland last year I heard Rob Grady and Bob Zilla say, and I quote,
"When TankZilla turns on your low fuel light, you need gas NOW!". I
believe the intention behind this is when the OEM sender is 'supposed'
to turn on the light, it seemed a bit early and rather unessesary. So
TankZilla was programed to turn it on only once it was absolutely
necessary.

Yup, I got my new DMC model today. I painted the door jambs, steering wheel
and seat belts black as they should be. I will not say whether my doors stay
up or not or what details I liked or didn't and start a whining contest,
because I think you people NEED TO REALIZE it is a fairly cheap model which
is actually quite nice for the price and get a life!

Just did this last week. If you want to work on the lights and switches for
the climate control panel, here's how to go about it. Disconnect the negative
battery terminal. Remove the two screws from the tray at the rear of the
center console, two screws from the metal shift lever/clock/dimmer panel and
the shifter knob. Pop off the the shifter boot frame and from the panel and
remove the boot. Lift out the panel and disconnect the dimmer control and
clock connectors. Remove 6 10mm hex nuts securing the console to the body.
Remove two screws securing the front sides of the console to the lower dash
knee pads. Lift the console slightly from the rear and disconnect the window
switch connectors, rear defrost connector and cigarette lighter connector and
bulb. Lift out the console from the rear and remove. Remove the three knobs
from the heater/fan/mode switch unit. Remove one screw found behind the
center mode switch knob. Remove the panel face. Remove the two lower hex nuts
securing the panel to the body. Remove the two upper screws securing the
panel to the dash. Pop the entire center vent assembly out of the metal
panel. Remove the radio knobs, hex nuts, and rear radio strap fastener.
Disconnect all radio wires. Remove radio through the vent opening. One
additional screw mounts the mode switch to the panel. Light and flasher
switches and bulbs snap out of the panel. Record all bulb positions. Three of
them are numbered 1-3 left to right. Reassembly of the vent requires you to
remove the vents from the vent housing. Then install the rubber boots to the
dash vent work, and then install the vent housing while guiding the boots
onto the housing. Then snap the vents back into the housing. Pay attention to
how the vents come out and reassemble the same way. It's not necessary to
disasemble the entire panel and console to get just the radio out.It can be
removed through the vent assembly opening.

Since you could only carry one passenger I think a much better idea
would be to rent the Delorean out as a Hearse! You would have to take
the "guest of honour" out of the box and sit them up but it would be a
once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Here's what I did. Get a one gallon plastic gas container , fill it
and drive around until you run out of gas (I know...might get
contamination and all that). Your light should come on at some
point. When it does, zero the trip odometer and continue to drive
till you are out. Then figure the amount of miles you drove vs the
miles per gallon the car uses (see owners manual). Then, add the
gallon you have in your container to the tank and head for the
station! There you have it...too simple, I guess!
