Webster defines exotic as foreign or strange. I think the DeLorean qualifies
as both. Certainly it has no long racing heritage like some cars have but I
can guarantee that parked next to that $60,000 Shelby Mustang it will steal
all the attention. Actually the Shelby 500 wasn't a whole lot more than a
big engined Mustang that had a few after market items installed in Shelby's
shop. The '65/66 Mustangs were the true Shelby's. Perhaps it's because I've
worked for Ford long enough to have been there when the Shelby Mustangs were
marketed that I find it hard to consider the Mustang an exotic. In any event
IMHO the DeLorean offers more exotica for the buck than any other car out
there.

Subject: Re: inner door seal seam / new headliners (another long one)
Hello again,
First of all thanks to everyone who responded; I'm putting the seal
next to the switches; that seems most logical and is supposed to be
where the factory put them...
My seals are brand new ones I got through someone from our club who
ordered them from the DOC UK (Chris Parnham if I'm correct...).

I had to read this post three times before I under stood which radius
I was supposed to trim... The third time I figured out it's the curved
bit of the shells the fabric is glued on in the doors that is meant
right? If so, no problem; the didn't rub in the first place...
What caused my seals to tear is quite simple:
one of the previous 4 owners re-did the headliners before,
but did a TERRIBLE job at getting it right...
- For starters he did only the doors and the front piece.
- Second he did all three pieves out of the car, without any extra
fabric to glue onto the body. Instead of this he'd glued strips
of fabric onto the body above the T-roof-shell...
- Third (and worst) was seating the seals in the wrong manner, which
caused them to sit NEXT TO the ridge the seals sit on in stead of
straight above. This way every time the door was closed the seal
was pinched in between the ss of the door and the ridge,
thus tearing the seal. This also caused my door to shift slightly
backwards when closing, making opening it a two-hand-procedure
(or hand-and-knee from the inside).
I've just finished glueing the fabric onto the shells and will be
putting them back in tomorrow AFTER I get me some sillicone-spray to
put on the seals (thanks for the reminder Chris) when I put them on.
So far I've had a great time working,
it's a great way to forget my troubled love-life for a while ;-)

Subject: Prices!
About that thread, all I can think of is thank God we can get what we
need, that we have outstanding vendors who really go all out, making
heavy investments to supply our wants. Price is certainly secondary, if
you couldn't get the part you need to keep your car running, what would
it be worth then.. Remember when you couldn't get gasoline? Did it
really matter what the price was when you could finally fill your tank?
I know there's sticker shock, so what!
My .002 cents worth.

Hello list,
I do agree that there is no need to once again produce the panels. But then again, "The Hood".
I would like to have my gas flap hood back. Some time after I purchased my DeLorean the front hood was damaged. So I had to replace it with the only hoods available from DMC Houston.
This would be the only body panel to me that would be worth reproducing.
Regards,
Mike

I was just fist-fighting my rack and pinion a few weeks ago... I'll also
admit that that u-joint on the rack was a pain to get off- not much room
to get any sort of leverage.. I unbolted the tightening bolt on the
joint, tried to spread it a bit with a screwdriver. I then stuffed a
flat head inside the lower U on the U-joint to push the rack's splined
shaft downward. That helped the movement a bit. After a half hour I
think I just started yanking on the old rack and hitting it with various
objects I could find- you know, mitre saw, 5-lb hammer. I can't recall
exactly. Maybe the beer or maybe I'm just trying to block it out of my
mind. It does come off, but certainly with a bit of force.. good luck.

Again my MAIN point is Exactly what is happening to this Bricklin on
Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?
ViewItem&item=594707298&r=0&t=0 The Car to parts value ON a RARE car
such as this perfectly restorable Bricklin, being parted out for no
other reason, but to make a buck,THEREBY reducing the world to one
less rare car.Again the majority of Delorean owners are middle class
owners, and don't have money to throw away on NOS overpriced
parts..One only has to look on Ebay to see the feeding frenzy, when a
hot Delorean part/or borderline Delorean is put up on auction,To
prove my point that NOS is overpriced,One more time for the
HARDHEADED,the main point,is the GREED to PART out a GOOD
DELOREAN,Bricklin,Ferrari,ECT ECT,Just to make a BUCK,because of the
inflated NOS parts MAKING the CAR worth parting out Because, the used
parts prices trail behind NOS parts prices,Making it worth more to
part, rather than restore,Again the ONLY Deloreans that I have ever
parted, were Deloreans, that were impossible to restore, those cars are
serving a purpose, and being recycled,But to take a Delorean that
needs some NOS parts, and part it out,for no reason but the value of
the car as parts is what my main point is.DON'T destroy a Delorean
just To make a BUCK!!

Subject: DeLorean Car Show Update
Hi
Lots of planning has been going on the past month or so and I thank all of
you that registered early. It made me aware that I way underestimated the
crowd. As a result a lot of things have changed. Mainly things have been
added and I am still working on pricing. Once that is done I will announce
the event registration. I think you all will be pleased at what we are
doing. I will work to out do Cleveland and with these changes I think I am
there.
Because of Memphis being a music City the show will feature music from all
eras and if you like music and cars then you will enjoy everything we are
doing.
(plenty of shopping and sightseeing for the ones that are not into cars.
Many antique dealers nearby.)
The second item is, I would like to remind all of you that Ken Montgomery has
his show coming up in September in California. He is working with the
Briklin and Mercedes groups and this looks to be a very interesting show. As
you know I have worked to get the Gullwing cars along with Lotus to be at my
shows and I have but in limited numbers.
Ken has put a lot of time into the show and I hope you all support him.
These shows make it possible to get together as a group and I believe they
help to promote the cars and to help the value of the car.
Kens registration web site is
http://www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=967905
Hope to see you there
If there are any DeLorean owners that would like to help and have stage,
audio video and lighting experience please contact me privately.
The Radisson for the Memphis show stil have some rooms left
1-800-333-3333
You must mention you are with the car show to get the discount price of $89
for any room they have left in the block.
It also looks like there are going to be a lot more cars coming to Memphis
that I had originally planned. Not sure if Clevelands numbers are at risk
but Cincinnati's numbers will easily be beat.
I also have a few of the specialty DeLoreans coming (these are ones not seen
in Cleveland) and you have to come to find out which ones they are.
Clarification
There are a lot of new owners out there and I have recieved a number of
e-mails over the last month or so along with a few calls wanting to know what
group I am affiliated with.
The DeLorean Car Show Inc.is an independent non profit corporation that has
no affiliations with any group or club. There are no fees or dues and it is
run strictly as an independent event for the enjoyment of our cars.
However the intent of the show is to allow all of the existing clubs and
groups to participate in the show however they want and this year I am
pleased to say I have more clubs participating than ever before.
If you want a table to display or sell items in Memphis please let me know or
write it down on you registration form (its free).
This is in response to people that wanted to Join the DeLorean Car Show and
wanted to know how to register. Thanks but I don't think I could handle the
paperwork LOL The show is open to everyone.
Thank you for your support
Ken

I've just been wondering... Was there ever a DeLorean dealership in Vermont?
Or did the chain never make it this far north? If there was one, chances are
I'd go hunt it down just to see it and look around for any interesting old

Hey List,
My drivers side window regulator doesn't work...original say no more.
But I just wanted to send a post to the DML asking if anyone has their
original drivers side window regulator that does work and they have lying
around since they replaced it with the upgraded heavier duty one and they
don't want it anymore? If so, e-mail me privately and tell me how much you
want for it. I just need something to tide me over til I get the upgraded
regulators. Thanks!

I retrofitted the gas flap into my hood. All the parts to do this are available for about $100. A careful good sheet metal worker can do this.
