don't know if this was mentioned (been off the list
for awhile).. but the 80's special edition of people
magazine has a profile on JZD, and michael j fox as
well.
No pics of the Delorean, but JZD is in there, along
with one of his ex-wives.
I don't remember the exact article, but it had a piece
of wrong info in it about the delorean car...and his
ex-wife was quoted as saying, "that car is the cause
of all of our problems"...then my wife read it and
said, "wow we have something in common"... I didn't
find it funny.
what I did find heart-breaking was the fact the molds
for the D are sitting at the bottom of the atlantic?
Was this a punishment by a judge or something? Why in
the hell would they do something like that?
Would it be possible to get them back?
If there was any appropriate resting place for the
Delorean though, the Atlantic would be it... it has
company with the mighty Titanic... both (Titanic and
the Delorean) are extreme royalty and will never be
replaced with anything as great for the rest of time.

The 97 Delorean Time Machine was featured at White Sox Park to bring out Elvis
for the Annual Elvis night at the park. Over 30,000 people were there and it
was broad cast on cable.
A video is supposed to be available in about 1 month.
Unfortunately, I was working and did not even get to see it. Brent drove the
car.
Did anyone see this on cable?

Do you use Armor-All or other similar dash/vinyl cleaner? This stuff
has a tendency to evaporate off the dash, then accumulate on the
windshield. I get it on both my DeLorean and Eagle Talon (even though
I dont use Armor-All, just too much leftover from previous cleanings).
Try cleaning your entire interior (inclucing the glass) with just a
soft, dry (or slightly water damp) rag. Probably your best bet unless
someone else has a better idea.

Many thanks for the DeLorean 'lift off' check list. Hopefully I won't have
to lift the frame more than a few inches. I'm hoping that I won't have to
disconnect much of anything. The pontoon bolts can be reached from side
access panels without taking the rear fascia off (I think.) I'll keep the
list posted on my progress.

well, as it stands right now, it looks like my noise was coming from the
trailing arm bolts. i have driven the delorean quite a bit for the past
couple of days (after tightening the trailing arm bolts) and the noise seems
to be gone.

Hi all,
Does any body know what happened to Joe Black and the original
Delorean service center? Most of the people that were involved
with Delorean service in California in the beginning are still
around today. I was looking through the old issues of Delorean
World and noticed the "National Service Center" stopped advertising
around mid '85, right around the same time D1 came into being.
(The reason for my curiosity was brought on by the old service bills
that came with my car, the original owner had a lot of work done
there, then seemed to switch to D1 for service.)

Travis,
You have discovered your problem; its the Ducellier alternator. Besides having an extremely high failure rate the Ducellier has a unpredictable way producing extremely low voltages under load. The electrical system will draw appox 90 amps at full load. That, by the way, is the problem with the Ducellier which has a maximum output of 80 amps.
Any alternator 90 amps of over is sufficient but I would recommend 100 to 110, anything over 115 is overkill. Your battery at 700 cranking amps is adequate but on those cold winter mornings you would do better with 775 or higher.

For people interested in all-things Gull-Winged, I found a
Gull Wing Mitsubishi Starion...
While searching for Mitsu Starion photos, I came across these photos
of a Gull Wind Starion - and I put them all on a page:

photos, but it seems that the car was built for a Japanese TV show
(see translation on the web page).
Also, I owned a 1985 Mitsubishi Starion for many years
(I'm sure many of you are familiar with this car). Ever Since I've owned
my Delorean, I've noticed a few (I think) remarkable similarities between
this car and the Delorean. The Starion was designed in the late 70's,
early 80's, and was originally released in mid 1982. I suspect the
designers of the Starion "borrowed" heavily from the Delorean, or
at least were subliminally inspired by the Delorean design. I've included

Yesterday, in N. CA I drove an '82 with 3029 miles on it. Asking price
is $17,500 but he's ready for an offer, I'm not going to make one. Saw
no dents, upholstery has some creases but no cracks that I could see.
Tires are excellent originals. Starts well and runs well, no eyebrows.
Steering column squeaks, engine cover latch is missing, stainless should
be re-grained. Spare tire and tools in new condition. If you're

Walt,
You'll see that you will have to lift the body a pretty good ways up.
To give you an idea of how much you have to lift it to access the
fuel lines...measure the height of the center console from the floor
to the top of the console then add a few inches (for working space to
get to the fuel lines) and that's approx. how much the body has to be
lifted. Like I said, I recomend having and extra person there to be
an exra set of eyes to keep an eye on all the wires, hoses, etc. to
make sure they all clear as your lifting the body.
As for the access panels....I never really checked into it since I
had my rear fascia off to take the engine out. Let me know what you
come up.
I posted a few pictures on the files page to give you a few visuals.
The picture titles "access" is the one for the rear pontoon
bolts...looking at that picture I don't see anyother way to get to
those bolts...I may be wrong.

(anti-freeze) on the window.
Have a pressure check done on your cooling system.

If you look at the picture titled "delor2.jpg" under the folder
Chassis removal in the files section....you'll see that I had to
place the body on approx 3 cynderblocks along with a 4X4 wood post in
between them. I should also note that I had the front wheels off and
the chassis itself was resting on a movers dolly. It gave me more
clearence (without having to jack the body up to high) and more
control as I was rolling the chassis back under (easier to steer it
and line it up). The height I had to jack up the body to get the
chassis back under is about the same height you will need to jack it
up to have a good working access to the fuel lines. Unfortunatly I
don't have measurements...just visuals...sorry.

Most auto manufacturers now only reccomend either a damp cloth or
something like Windex on the dashboard because anything that makes it
shiny will cause glare on the windscreen and can also cause a film to
appear on the inside surface. If anyone smokes in the car that can
also cause quite a build-up on the interior glass. In the winter if
you run the heat/defrost and get a steamed-up winscreen that would
indicate a leaky heater core.

Uh, it may not be over yet. If one of your trailing arm bolts were loose
enough to make noise, then I strongly recommend replacing them. I'm in the
process of replacing mine now. (Well, I stopped for a few days out of
frustration.) Because my passenger bolt was a little loose, it pivoted in
the wrong place and scored up a washer. Mine wasn't loose enough to lose
any shims, but if yours was making noise, then you should check your rear
alignment. All the cars that I have seen have 4 shims on the passenger side
and 3 on the driver's side. I'm suspicious that the factory used this as a
formula and never checked the alignment otherwise. Oh, by the way, both of
my OEM bolts are bent. Did you check yours? Twirl them around and see.
The passenger side was hard to get out for this reason, and I might have to
cut the driver's side out if it is too bent to slide out. With an automatic
tranny in the way, there isn't much room to work on it.

I wanted to chime in about the molds for the Delorean's body. The way I understand it is that when JZD came out of his first round of legal battles he made mention of re-starting the company. What to keep in mind here is that the conservative party in Britain (the Torries) is the main reason for the initial collapse of the company. The Delorean project was a pet of the Labour party government which approved the massive loans to DMC in order to create jobs in Belfast. This program was one of the few that was actually turning a profit for the government when the switch took place in '81 from Labour to Conservative. So, the conservative party, wanting to rid itself of any labour party programs (successful or not), basically reneged on the loans to DMC. This forced the whole money scramble, which led to the entrapment of JZD. Thus, back to the mention of restarting the company, when JZD mentioned another attmept, the British gov't took the molds and sold them to a fishing comp!

as weights for fish nets and the are at the bottom of Galloway bay, completely ruined. So this is why there are no new fenders and such. A company in Europe bought and old ferry boat, an in the process of restoring it, they discovered actual pictures of the molds being pushed into the bay off of that boat! I can't find the URL, but those pictures are posted somewhere. Maybe someone else knows it? Anyway, that's the way I think it went.

Some front facia tend to "droop" above the headlights after getting too
much heat and/or sun . . . since they droop it looks like sagging eyebrows.

the front facia does not have a solid metal frame across the top of the
lights. heat and time caused the top of the facia to warp over the
headlights causing the headlights to appear as if they have "eyebrows"

Just a reminder that the annual "My Classic Car" car show event which is
held in Evansville Indiana is coming up on Sept 28-30th. This event has
become one of the most popular auto shows in the country with national TV
exposure, and has become an annual event for the MidState Delorean Club and
all our friends. This year we already have Deloreans from Illinois, Indiana,
Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ohio, Colorado and Texas
registered.
We'd like to invite anyone who is interested in attending to come along
and join the fun. It looks like this year is going to be the largest Delorean
turnout ever, and Dennis Gage, the host of the TV show "My Classic Car," has
developed a real fondness for our cars and our group. We look forward to
