Hey list,
I wrote about this problem a while ago. My passenger seat track doesn't
grab in the "all the way back" position. It won't grab till about half way
up. I took the seat out, put washers under each bolt stud. and reinstalled
the seat. Still does the same thing.
What could it be? Any Ideas? It scares my passengers. Thanks a bunch!

I stand corrected! I moved poor Marty out west. If you need to contact
him directly for the recalibrated oil pressure sender unit his REAL
address is:
Wing Wirx Inc.
704 Valley Dr.
E. Alton, IL 62024
When I purchesed my sender the price was $35.00. Contact him for the
latest pricing and availability if you are interested. Just for the
record I am very pleased with the way my gauge operates now with his
sender. It is very easy to install even if you are a mechanical
novice!

Subject: how hot is too hot?
My DeLorean is my daily driver here in San Jose, California, and lately
it's been running a little hot. My car is garaged at night, and on the 20
minute trip to work (straight shot down the highway) I don't notice the
car getting hot. Then when I leave work, the sun is usually either down or
on its way down.
Over the last couple of days though, I've driven the car quite a bit in
the middle of the day. The air conditioning isn't working, so of course
I'm hot, but the car has been running hot as well. Usually, the temp gauge
sits somewhere between the 220 mark, and the tick mark below it (160). In
the sun though, the temperature goes just a little above 220, and today
got half way between 220 and the next higher tick (240).
I had the entire cooling system replaced by Don at DMC Garden Grove just a
few months ago, and I've installed DMC Joe's Overheat Protector and a
stainless steel header bottle. I feel like my car should be rock solid,
but i'm a little worried that she's running too hot. Does this sound a
little hot, or am I just blowing steam?

Subject: Buying a DeLorean (eBay or otherwise).
I have seen some excellent deals for what appear to be good cars on
eBay. And I've also seen clunkers for sale in AutoTrader and
Hemmings. No matter where you look, you will always find good cars
that go along with the bad ones. Wheater you bid in an online
auction, see an advertisment in the paper, or you drive by a car for
sale, remember this: There is not, never has been, nor will there
ever be a substitute for examining a car in person. You can know
everything there is to know about a DeLorean. But if you don't look
at a specific car in person, what good does that knowlege do you?
Without knowing what you're getting into, by way of inspecting a
specific car, what you know about the marquee is useless.
I understand the point that was trying to be made originally: A good
number of the cars sold on eBay come from people who are attempting
to sell them quickly. And that the condition/personal intrest in the
car is a big factor. I both understand and recognize that statement.
I also agree to a certain degree with that statement as well. But,
it's a two-way street. Most of the cars that are SOLD on eBay are
usually of a nature that they require repairs of some sort. Now on
the flip side, people don't really bid on cars on eBay that go over
the price tag of $13K. This includes the quality ones as well. Other
makes/models of vehicles do go for higher prices. So I think this
rules out the "eBay is for beaters" rule.
"I got a good/bad car someplace" isn't that creative of a discussion.
Plus it doesn't really help out someone who needs clarification in
searching for a car. Relating a personal expierience helps, but
education is the key. No matter where a person looks, they will find
just as many ill cars as the will good running ones. The choice of
cars is yours. But what you don't know can hurt you.

Hi all
What is the average tempature should the DMC run at? When driving my car say
5 miles the fans will come on a few times with the outside temp about
50-60deg .The fans appear to cut in at 180deg. Another thing i have noticed
is normally the fan kick in for a very short time but the next time they
kick in they go on for a while. Just wondered if this normal or my car is
running hot?. I have replaced at the cooling hoses and have a metal rad.
Thanks

Christian, I sounds to hot. Make sure both fans are coming on and the blades
are turning fast. You should should feel a substantial amout of air from
behind each one. Sometimes the fans come on but the blades don't turn at full
speed because the retainer clips have come off and the blades are turning
slow. They striped out the placstic slot the pin thru the shaft fits in. Be
sure if this is the case the pin thru the shaft is tight. I just heard from a
person today that replaced the pin and used a smaller loose size. This pin
has to be tight in the shaft and in the slot of the fan blade. If this turns
out to be ok, then I would replace the otterstat. If still not good , then
when was the last time the radiator was cleaned out and the thermostat was
checked.

Chris, The otterstat is supposed to turn the fans on at 207 degree f and turn
off at 196 degree f. My car 11004 which has about 51,000 miles on it, turns
on and off in the Dallas traffic in 90 degree weather just a tad above the
1st mark which is about the same as yours 180 maybe. What is off, the gauge
or the otterstat. I'm going to buy a surface temp probe for my meter to
measure the correct temp. I have also taken apart the otterstat, and it
reminds me of an old Halloween clicker inside with a bimetal ring that pushes
a small piece of plastic down to turn the switch on and off. I would try
another otterstat and get an average between the two. More than likely it
will turn the fans on at a different spot. Then you can see which one you
like best. As far as the fans staying on longer after it gets hot, that my be
normal. Most of the time it depends on the traffice/driving conditions. If
I'm moving 30+ miles per hour my fans don't come on very much and it takes a
minuet or two to cool down.

Cameron, The oil pressure reading should only be at the top when cold
or at a fast idle. If running the 20/40 or 20/50 you will get a
higher reading with the 20/50 oil. I to have a oil pressure gauge
that reads correct with the 20/50 oil I run. At an idle and the
engine hot, it drops just below the 1/2 way mark. Then back up to
just under 80 lb's when I get above idle.

Subject: San Diego area - Delorean road trip to Julian
This is for anyone in or near San Diego, California who wishes to join us. Last month we had a gathering just to meet local owners and managed to gather 9 cars and a great group of people. It'd be nice to top that this month...
We are planning a trip to Julian this coming Saturday, June 23. Please plan to arrive at the Trophy's in Mission Valley (163 @ Friars Rd., in the Hazard Center) at 9:30 Saturday morning. >From there it is almost exactly 60 miles to Julian. The route, after some unavoidable Interstate travel at the beginning, will take us through some beautiful scenery and should be a very enjoyable drive. Once in Julian, we'll have some parking blocked off for us by Eric, a Delorean owner and also the owner of the Warm Hearth store there. If you know Julian, you know that parking can be difficult at times, so this is a great bonus! We are free to shop around in town and /or have lunch (lunch gets my vote!) Shortly before 2pm, we'll need to get back together and drive 3 miles further down the road to the Menghini Winery. The Menghini's are excited about having us visit, and we'll be able to park in a large, grassy picnic area right behind their wine-tasting room. That will be the end of any "organized" activities for the day. There are many different routes available to get back to San Diego - if you'd like any suggestions, please contact me.
This information has already been sent to all of the local folks that I am aware of. If you're close enough, we'd sure like to see you here. If you need any additional information or encouragement, please contact me at dmcox "at" delorean.com (dmcox@xxxxxxxxxxxx)

-I think that most of us have heard about the aluminum bodies, the helicopter engines, the cocaine jokes, and "where's your flux capacitor?", but here's one that is new to me: Every Friday night this summer, we've been going to a local cruise night. We were parked, with our doors open, when a couple approached the car. The woman ducked under the doors and peered up at them, then turned to her comapnion and said "I don't see them." This got my interest, so I wandered over and started talking to them. They wanted to know where the door handles were located. According to him, in San Francisco at some time in the 80s, he'd had to park a Delorean, and couldn't figure out how to open the doors. He said he'd eventually had to crawl out through a window. I pointed out the size of the window opening. He then thought maybe it was the rear window - it was, after all, a long time ago, so the details were a bit fuzzy... He was a skinny guy, but not that skinny!
...then there was the woman who was telling someone as she walked away "They built these near where I grew up, in Utah..." Anybody know if there was a quality control center in Utah? ;)

Hi List,
I've got a question regarding the side view mirrors on our

has come loose. It's not the mirror itself, but the whole part that
swings in for side clearance. I've pulled the little plate off that's

could tighten down, but I didn't. Any clue on how to perform this
operation?
I'm getting mighty tired of the mirror swinging in on it's own at
highway speeds. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Subject: Re: how hot is too hot?
I think your hot running problem may be from the otterstat. My original one
didn't turn the fans on until the temp gauge was around 220 +/- a needle
width. The next time your car starts getting hot, see if the fans don't
come on until around the 220 mark. If so, then replace the otterstat with a
cooler one. Another symptom that makes me suspect your otterstat bad is the
fact that you are running without a/c. When the a/c compressor is running,
then so do the radiator fans regardless of what the otterstat thinks. Even
with my otterstat disconnected, the a/c runs the radiator fans enough to
keep the engine cooler than relying on the otterstat alone. For a more
precise way to check your otterstat, put it in a pot of water on the stove
and hold it with the alligator clips from a continuity meter. Then see what
temperature it switches at.
When buying a new otterstat, be sure that you get the right one. There are
several versions of the otterstat that will fit, but each switches at a
different temperature. If you replace it with another one that is also for
too high a temperature, then you won't get an improvement. Just be careful
who you buy the new one from.
The next part I would suspect is the thermostat. You can take it out, drop
it in a pot of water and heat it up to see at what temperature it opens. It
may not be opening completely or not soon enough.
A less likely cause could be a loose fan belt, but you would probably hear
that squeaking if it were.

My guess is you have two problems. First, your gas tank was low enough that
taking a corner at six gees sloshed the fuel away from the inlet baffle in
your tank. This will stall a DeLorean engine very quickly.
Unless you were *very* low on fuel, most likely your baffle is floating loose
in the tank. You can survive like this for years, just make sure your tank
is full before you take fast corners.
> The engine will not turn over either. So I coasted into
> the driveway. Oil light turned on too.
This is usually a symptom of something else. Your battery may have been low
(not ususual in a DeLorean with Ducey alternator at night). Your starter
solenoid may be getting old.
The electrical diagnosis depends on your VIN, and which updates have been
done. Can you give us that info?

Chris,
"What is the average temperature should the DMC run at?"
The normal operating temperature is between 196 F and 207 F.
"When driving my car say 5 miles the fans will come on a few times with the outside temp about 50-60deg ."
While driving the car at highway speeds there is usually sufficient air flow through the radiator to allow proper cooling without the cooling fans. Once the fans turn on they should run continually (2-3 min) until the coolant temperature falls to 196 F.
I would suggest that you replace your cooling fan circuit breaker with the 40 amp upgrade. You might also consider installing the Engine Overheat Protector to eliminate overheating due to air bubbles in the coolant lines. Subject: [DML] Coolant temp
Hi all
What is the average tempature should the DMC run at? When driving my car say
5 miles the fans will come on a few times with the outside temp about
50-60deg .The fans appear to cut in at 180deg. Another thing i have noticed
is normally the fan kick in for a very short time but the next time they
kick in they go on for a while. Just wondered if this normal or my car is
running hot?. I have replaced at the cooling hoses and have a metal rad.
Thanks
Chris
