This one I know, it's most likely your wheel bearing. If you want to do
it yourself, wheel bearings are not amazingly difficult to do. It's a
good time to perform any needed brake maintenance as well.

Andy, What Dave is saying is true about the alternator. If B+ shorts
to ground then all kinds of things can happen. But: If all was
working well before, then maby it's something simple. Except they are
all coming at one time. Here's my 2cents.
#1. Assumming the flasher unit is ok, then make sure the wires are
plugged into the socket ok and when the unit is inserted into the
socket it isn't pushing the wire/connector out or just part way to
create a intermit.
#2.Door lights could be as simple as cleaning the sockets and the
base of the bulb to make better contact.That's what i did to mine
after 20 years of neglect.
#3.The fan speed switch energizes the coils to the 3rd and 4th speed
of the fan relays, which did you have on and for how long. If it was
3rd or 4th speed then the relay may have stuck. If it was 1st or 2nd
speed then the AC Mode switch should have cut the power to 1st and
2nd speed, then they would go off. Have you updated the relays.
#4.You said you can fix and maby a door switch.
#5.Maby there is something in the tire. But you would have heard it
by now. A little out of my area.
#6. Have a good night sleep and Barbecue the Elephant tomorrow. One
Piece at a time. It's the only way. Think of the positive, after you
have fixed all these things you can tell us what to do or not to do
when we encounter all these things.

KJet-tronic system should have the proper gauges and dwell meters to check
and adjust the system.
If you have not already done so, purchase the Service manuals. There are
two different ones out there and they both have good useful information.
The manuals should be available from your favorite DeLorean parts and
service vendor.

Yes, it does contain silicones, but not in the same way that Armor-All
does. Their web site at http://www.lexol.com/ has full details.
My personal experience with the product over the past couple of years, on
numerous cars, is that it seems to do an excellent job at cleaning and
protecting the vinyl surfaces in the car. It does not leave a greasy or
shiny finish after application, and I haven't noticed deposits on the
windsheild as I have with Armor-All and other products. I've also tried
other products like the Mequires Vinyl cleaner, but so far I have always
come back to Vinylex.

It seems to me that everyone here is overlooking something. Why
upgrade the engine.. it seems that everyone who has been vocal has
forgotten one key factor BOOST!.. we all know that this engine is
capable of a Force Induction ugrade.. aka the Legand Turbo Setup..
bam there you go.. looking at this from an Import Tuner perspective..
its great.. ( I drive a Twin Turbo Z) you need to free up the exhaust
system.. gut the cats and the pre-cats.. increase the piping to like
2.5 or 3 inches.. install a high flow intake ( k/n cone
filtercharger).. then start worrying about boosting.. you could
install some boost jets (contact welding tips) or just get a bigger
turbo.. or install ceramic bearings etc.. there is a host of
possiblities there.. then get a boost controller to jack up the
boost.. couple that with an Air/Fuel Controller and well you have
an .. excuse my french " a Raped Ape "... this car will be freakin
awesome.. as long as we can upgrade the clutch .. heehe
what do ya think.. we could also place the intercooler in a way for a
bigger ram-air effect.. woohoo.. this sucker would be FAAAST and
EFFIECENT!

With all of the problems you are having it leads me to suspect that at
some time in this car's history it got flooded. The wheel bearings got
wet and washed out the lubrication and all of the ground connections
are rusty and need to be taken apart and cleaned. If you have 1 bad
wheel bearing it is usually a good idea to replace both front
bearings. Check the fluids in the trans and final unit, brake and
clutch fluids, CV boots for cuts steering rack boots, the frame for
general rust.Lubricate the parking brake cables and speedo cable, and
grease the rod ends. Expect further problems.:(

I used one of the service centers to fine tune my fuel injection system
before I drove from Mobile to Los Angeles a few years ago. The service tech
had all of the correct instruments and gauges. I only needed to show him
where the ECU, Accumulator and filter was located.
If I lived close to one of the DMC service centers I would have had them
adjust the F.I. Living in a remote location, such as Mobile or Fargo, I
have had to learn about the car and its various systems so I could perform
the service work myself. Also, I have found that the DMC vendors are always
helpful in diagnosing the problems. As one of the list members suggested
earlier, BBQ the elephant one piece at a time, repair one problem at a time
and you will not end up overwhelmed.
Another cause for rough running is water in the spark plug wells. Make sure
that the wells are clean and dry. The plug wires are supposed to have boots
on them to seal around the plug wells. Put a little tune up grease on the
boots before installation. It will seal better and make it easier to remove
later on.
Make sure that the hole in the intake manifold, to access the adjustment
screw, is plugged. It is located right next to the fuel distributor at the
6 o'clock position (towards the rear of the car). Sometimes a threaded plug
is used or a rubber plug with a wire handle. This could be a source of a
vacuum leak that is over looked by many.
If your interior lights will not turn off when you close the door, make sure
that the door switches are being fully depressed when the door is closed.
There should be a rubber tip or a short piece of hose fitted over the end of
the switch so the door will fully depress it when closed. Also, be sure
that the light are rocked to the position that is controlled by the door
switch.
Find and clean/tighten all of the grounds in the system. They are listed in
the service manuals. All kinds of problems in the electrical system can be
caused by weak ground connections. Pull each fuse and relay one at a time
to make sure you have good clean tight connections. Check the tail light
boards and make sure that the connectors are clean and tight. The tail
light boards are notorious for intermittent failure. There are new tail
light boards out there for sale or you can clean and tighten the
connections.
When my car was recommissioned after ten years of storage, I disconnected
every electrical connection I could find and cleaned them. Do them one at a
time so you do not mix them up.
The marble sound from the left front wheel may be the wheel bearings.

I think it's time for some enterprising vendor to come up with a basic
newbie kit. Why all of the same questions over and over when they could
be printed out and enclosed with perhaps some Lexol, and a list of
what's leather and what's vinyl. No one in my town has Lexol and if I
have to order it I'd like to support the vendors who support us. Also,
a Posidrive screwdriver, none in my town ever heard of it. And how
about a rendering of how to fix those intermittent tail lights, the nut
and bolt theory, the soldering theory and the new board availability.
Everybody has tail light problems, why not alert up front. Plus add
some of your own, or make it a welcome aboard kit, whatever, but more
and more new people are coming on board or preparing to, let's lend a
hand the easy way.
I'm thinking some of those multi-hundred dollar replacement parts may
include a tiny markup and it might be possible for one of the major
vendors to do a welcome wagon bit with a newbie kit.
As of Saturday I'll be one of the old timers, two months old, and I've
benefited handsomely from the list, I have to believe that no one of us
knows it all, but in total, we come pretty close.
Thanks to all who responded to my many questions, I'll do my part as
well as my perceived wisdom allows.

Legend was more than just some turbos slapped on to a stock DMC motor. Just
about EVERYTHING was changed except for the block itself (so I was told by a
former Legend employee). There is just no way you can get 300HP out of
components that were designed for under 200HP.
It has been accepted by all of the vendors who sell or install Turbos for the
DMC that 6PSI is the most you can get without breaking things in the engine.
The estimated HP is around 190 with the turbos @ 6PSI. Considering that the DOC
members get 170HP just by reworking the exhaust, Turbos are a big headache (and
expense) for 20 more HP!
BTW, I have turbos on my DMC and love it.... But that does not mean there are
no better solutions!

Check all your ground connections! Make sure you have good clean
ground connections going from the battery to the frame...the frame in
the engine compartment to the ground post AND most importantly the
ground strap on the left (passenger side) engine mount is still going
from the engine mount stud to the engine mount bolt on the frame. If
you have any bad grounds your car (any car) is going to act funky.
When I worked on a Lincoln (rebuilt the engine) I accidently forgot
to attach the ground strap going to the engine block and this engine
Ran ROUGH...like crap. After cleaning the connection and connecting
it....ran like a champ. It's a long shot but worth it. Probably the
sorce of your other electrical problems too.

pay up to $110 million to John DeLorean's creditors after a jury ruled the
accountants should have known of his car company's shaky deals.
DeLorean's car manufacturing enterprise went bankrupt 16 years ago,
leaving a trail of unpaid bills.
After less than three hours of deliberations, the state jury recommended
today that the accountants pay $46.2 million, plus up to $65 million in
interest.
Jurors found the accountants signed off on DeLorean's financial
statements despite evidence of possible fraud.
No Fraud Conviction
DeLorean was never convicted of fraud, but has been ordered to pay investors
and creditors about $9 million. The plaintiffs argued that he was siphoning
away millions of dollars through a fictional Panamanian company.
Robert C. Hubbell, a spokesman for Arthur Andersen, said the firm will
appeal. Hubbell said the accounting firm already has paid $35 million to the
British government, the largest investor in the DeLorean Motor Co. That
should reduce the settlement, he said.
A judge will decide how much interest the accountants must pay.
Michael D. Hess, the lawyer for the plaintiffs, said Arthur Andersen
kept issuing opinions favorable to the carmaker "because that is what John
DeLorean wanted."

I have a tall tale for you. The dealer I bought my DeLorean from last year
told me a photographer wanted to rent the car for one day to do a photo
shoot for a BTTF party in Miami. Since he wasn't in the car rental business
and didn't want to have to set up getting the right kind of insurance to
rent a car, he refused. The photographer finally offered $1000. The dealer
gave in at this price under the agreement that the car was not to be driven
anywhere. It had to be towed on a flat bed everywhere it went.
I suppose this story is true since I don't see why a dealer would make this
up. It may have been profitable for the dealer, but considering that a
front tow hook on my frame is pulled loose on one side and both of my front
lower control arms are damaged by some idiot tow truck operator.... I can't

Being into photography myself and seeing what other photographers do to
mutilate things to make the perfect picture, I would never leave my car in
someone else's care. For example, did you know that hair spray can be very
useful for dulling shinny chrome? Do you know what it can do to paint?
Have you ever seen a photographer paint a car with it to tone down the
glare? Don't let something stupid like this happen to your car.

Those pictures have been in the Magazine made by the DeLorean Owners Club of
Ohio and
were made by me because of the question for pitures showing up a couple of times
in the past...
Since the actual copyright to the car/game lies with Stainless Software (great
name in this context!) I wouldn't really mind if you used them, a link to my
site (still under construction) would be nice; I DID make the effort of getting
them available...

Just pull the #12 fuse or buy a BatterySaver from DMC Joe,
this also disconnects the lights in the engine compartment, glovebox,
domelights and the trunk. The Batterysaver is plug-and-play...

PS. I wired up a switch and in-line fuseholder myself so it plugs into the
fusebox; works like a charm, only downside is that I get a "phantom-light"
on the dash when I forget to put it on when driving AND I get false triggers
on my alarmsystem. That last one is being worked out at the moment...

Hang in there! The good thing about problems like this is that once you
replace the defective part, or correct the incorrect adjustment, you aren't
likely to need to keep going back and doing it over. Plus you'll learn a lot
about your car, and increase your driving pleasure.

I like your analogy of cooking the elephant. While it is true that big
problems can be reduced to a bunch of little problems sometimes you
need to step back and look at the "big" picture. You can't kill the
elephant a little at a time or cut off a piece at a time. You must
attack (kill) the BIG problem. It is always helpful to know the
history of a car but in some cases we can infer from symptoms some of
the major events. If the car was indeed in deep water an experienced
eye could see that and if it was then you could reasonably anticipate
the troubles that will occur and what to do. Attacking them one by one
will disappoint you when they arise and shake your confidence in the
car. Better to "bite the bullet" and go through the whole cure then to
repeatedly have the car leave you stranded or have recurring
intermittant problems. Going after the symptoms and not delving into
the root cause will have you chasing the problems instead of getting
ahead of them and fixing the car once and for all. This is one of the
differences between a guy who fixes cars for a hobby and someone who
is knowledgeable about cars and has years of experience. When you go
to the garage for repairs although you think they are talking you into
a bigger job then you need they are really offering to fix the WHOLE
problem not just the symptoms. Most shops will want to repair a
problem right the first time because even if the owner thinks he was
overcharged he is happier than the customer who in spite of paying has
to keep bringing the car back again and again. If you lose the
alternater ground you also lose the B+ reference (ground) so it can no
longer figure out what the output voltage is even though it can still
read B+.( one of the drawbacks of having the regulater in the
alternater)
