Scott,
What you are looking at on the rocker covers are plastic caps that cover the
seatbelt anchor bolts and not the jack points. Any of the Delorean vendors
should have them.

You should not have to depress the clutch twice to get it into reverse. It
sounds like the shift gate needs to be adjusted.

I'm sorry I don't want to seem rude but this is info that I don't
need. I know they can be repaired and I know there are replacements,
I just need to know how to disassemble it without breaking it. As of
now the only way I can see to take it apart is to drill a small hole
in the side of the unit, insert a thin piece of metal to stop
whatever is turning as I try to remove the nut and geantly break the
nut free. Afterwards fill the hole with some putty that people use to
repair gas tanks with. If there is a less evasive way that anybody
knows please let me know.
Oh and one other thing, does anyone have specs on this? Like what the
resistance readings should be at different levels?
I am trying to utilize his list with questions before I start calling
the Delorean vendors and bugging them with a million questions.
Thanks,
Steve

I reccomend cutting a circular piece of 3/4" ply and putting it under the

have mine pretapped with holes so I can attach the jack to the stabilizer

Claude, The oem jack seems to be adequate for the emergency changes,
but that's about it. Never trust getting under the car with it.
You might even want to carry around a couple of 1x4x12" for a better
footing incase your ever on the side of the road in soft ground. This
has happened to me and I couldn't jack up the car.

Subject: Shifting into reverse
Wasn't going to respond to this but my problem was so similar it might
help. I had trouble with all of the gears, reverse was particularly
hard to get into, sometimes took several tries and sometimes two hands.
Getting into 1st I'd sometimes have to go to 2nd gear and then into 1st,
downright miserable.
I replaced the pivot bolt only because I'd read so much about them
breaking, I chose specialTauto's bolt because it's listed as super
hard. I did not see any problem with the pivot area. Hopefully you
have the parts book, if not download it because that's where we go from
here: transmission, manual, shift linkage 4/2/0.
To shorten this, after the usual period of fumbling around in a strange
environment I noticed that part #23 the drop arm extension was bent,
where it rested against the transmission arm portion that the bolts went
into. Didn't seem right so took it off and smacked it with a hammer on
my anvil. Put it back on and my conclusion was that there was a
clearance problem with the transmission arm and that if I tightened the
bolts completely the drop arm extension would bend again. I tightened
the bolt farthest away from the bend area but the bolt closest to it I
just tightened to "snug." I used loctite on the threads and put a nut
on the extended bolt threads to keep it honest.
The result, downright amazing, reverse very easy to get into, 1st and
2nd are as good as any I remember driving. I've ordered a new drop arm
extension but it works so well as is I probably won't change a thing.
To quote several of the sages, "if it ain't broke don't fix it."
Hope this helps and if not clear e-mail me privately.
Les

This drove me crazy when I first got my D! Having driven auto trans nearly
exclusively for the past 28 years, I probably took a year off the life of my
transmission on the test drive alone! :( The prior owner, who is not a real
large guy, saw me struggling and told me he used both hands to lift it up to
get into reverse! Not necessary, I later found out.
I had two problems: keeping the shifter from dropping into second by
mistake, and getting the gears to mesh even when I really was in reverse.
Here's what I learned:
1) The directions seem to say, "LIFT the knob, THEN move left, then
rearwards." But that doesn't always work. The shift pattern diagram in the
manual tells a different story. Try this: Move left, LIFT, then pull further
left and rearwards."
2) If you're in the right spot but it hasn't quite meshed, maintain firm but
not brute pressure rearwards on the shifter as you ease off gently on the
clutch. It should drop nicely into gear. Don't ever force it or try to slam
it into gear. After you get a feel for this, it'll become second nature and
you won't have to hope nobody's looking when you need to back up. :) It's
worth the trouble... for me, a five speed is more fun to drive!

Subject: Daily drivers?
Hi there,
How many of you use your Deloreans as a daily driver? How do they hold up to
being driven on a regular basis? I figure I'll put at least 15,000 miles a
year on mine; I just can't see having such a fun car and only driving it on
weekends. (I mean no offense to those of you who do this; I just couldn't
handle driving a "normal" car to work when I've got my very own Delorean
available. I'd do the same if it were a $400K Lamborghini. Heck, even if I
planned to drive it only on weekends I'd never follow through.)
I don't mind (in fact, I enjoy) the regular maintenance and time that goes
into an older vehicle. What I'm worried about is spending $15-20K on a car
and having recurring problems that keep me from driving it on a daily basis.
Obviously, things are going to break eventually, but I figure most cars
ought to be quite reliable up to at least 100K miles. Is this true of the
Delorean? How has it worked out for those of you who use it as a daily
driver?
Thanks,
-Ryan

I have learned the hard way that it is a real bad idea to use Armor-All on
the dash of cars. If you leave the car in the sun, the stuff evaporates
from the dash and gets the inside of the windshield all greasy. It is quite
a job to clean the windshield afterwards.
Does the Lexol product evaporate and deposit on the windshield too?

I might or might not sell a kit(not much of a help is

the only HUD is for Speed and etc. If you want this
kits are sold on the internet for this

The Cadillac Deville has a nightvision and gps hud.
This is what i was planning to make. I found a way to
display a 9 inch screen as a hud. There is a film
that HUD sellers use that has to be placed on the
windshield. As I bet you can see this film on your
pontiac windshield. All I have got to do is get a 9
inch, Television or Laptop screen in my dash to point
up at the film and all will work well.

Subject: Don't cut the dash..cut the radio?
Ok...So I have a little over an hour commute every day, and it allows me TOO
much time to think.
I want to remove the original DMC radio and replace it with a
tuner/cassette/cd changer that used to be in my wife's old car about a year
and a half ago before it got totaled in an accident (her new car had a nice
radio, so I never installed it). I do not want to modify my dashboard, so I
figured...WHY NOT MODIFY THE RADIO!
It has a detachable face plate, and only the connector socket and display
are on the radio. I removed them (one piece) to see what was behind them,
and low and behold...NOTHING! They are attached via a series of 20 solder
points.
This is my thought......
-extend the connections of the display and connector socket with a ribbon
cable.
-remove the cover plate and mount it, the display and connector socket on
the OUTSIDE of the DMC Dash, with ribbon cable wires going into the existing
dashboard holes to the other end of the actual radio on the inside of the
dash
-Mount the radio inside the dash, and align the cover plate with the rest of
the unit. Find some nice way to keep it all lined up, and....WAHLA! Snap
in the removable face plate and you are ready to go!
This is just an idea, but I will take digital pictures and let you know how
my research works out! Can't do too much more right now until I get the car
back from PJ Grady later next week some time.

Subject: Re: Trouble Shifting into Reverse and acceleration
Latest update:
Got my D's front end aligned and tires balanced this past Saturday. It
drove a lot better but the steering started making this kind of humming
vibration (could hear and feel but mostly feel) when you turned more then
just a little bit. It reminded me of an old Dodge Dart I had when the power
steering fluid was low (the pumped hummed loudly and caused the steering to
vibrate but guess I don't have to worry about power steering fluid on this
car).
Drove it to work this morning and no problems. Got in it this evening to
come home and I don't know what the heck happened but it all went south.
First the clutch resistance (to depress) had chainged significantly. About
1/2 of the travel didn't seem to do anything. It was also jammed into gear
and really didn't want to come out. There was actually a spring type
tension forcing the lever forward. When I finally did get it in gear, the
clutch never disengaged the drive train (ie. it would still move as in gear
but it would slip some).
Finally managed to get it into reverse to back out of my parking space. Got
it into (as near as I can tell) 3rd and limped to a meeting I had. From
there I called a tow truck Really sad to see her carted off.
Plans for now is to give the shop who has her DMCJoe's number and see if we
can get her fixed. Any thoughts (and of course wishes for luck) would be
greatly welcomed by this newcomer (starting week 2 of ownership).
One last item, would like to put a cruise control on her. Anyone done this
before? Can you recommend a good product?
Thanks for listening to a long-winded newbie.

I drive mine in the area of 15 to 20,000 a year, and like any other car, if you keep up with regular maintenance, and have all the updates done, you shouldn't have any more trouble out of it than you would with any normal car. If anything, you'll probably have less.
