Umm, I hate to be the one to point this out Sheraz, but the DeLorean
temperature sending unit is in the RH cylinder head, not in the coolant
line.  There is no reason it should not show the correct engine temp.

That was down here in northern California a couple of months ago. The time
machine isn't as nice as the universal studios cars but it was nice to see.

I saw in ABC channel today that there will be a car
exibithion show in Seattle next Thursday to Sunday.
There will be famous cars like Batmobile, the car from
"Dukes of Hazzard" and the DeLorean Time Machine.
Does someone know more about this event, and who the
time machine belongs to?

Thanks

Hi Everyone,

I replaced all the bulbs in the instrument cluster with neon blue bulbs. I'd got a couple of bulbs that had blown so while I had the binnacle out I thought I would try different colors. Neon might not be everyones cup of tea but I like it.

ps
removing the binnacle is not as difficult as first seems but before you bolt it back in make sure everything works.

FYI  to all,

If you've been wanting to frame a picture of your D or just a stainless steel nut . . . WalMart has a great document size black frame that has a nice stainless steel boarder! Under $10.

Just found it this weekend while brows'n.

I have to say that I take offense to your posting John.

>All they can do is criticize the efforts of others. And if they sell
tank sending units, then even more reasons to criticize.>

You are the only person selling DeLorean parts that constantly and
regularly criticize the efforts of the DeLorean vendors.
If you want to be a DeLorean vendor then do it the way the DeLorean
vendors we depend on did, by providing the DeLorean community with
1st rate parts or service.

When I first started reading your posts and about your products I
felt that you where going to be an asset to the DeLorean community
and eventually would be one of the people who help contribute to the
DeLorean community.

Your approach to marketing your products is offensive to me and I'm
sure many other people on this list(who have been served well by the
DeLorean venders) feel the same way!

If you truly come up with a better product or service I welcome it
(that will benefit all of us)! What I have a problem with is the way
you attack the DeLorean people who have provided us with exceptional
parts, service, technical advice and more importantly done this
honestly and with integrity.

As I said once before " I encourage you and anyone else to provide
the DeLorean with new and innovative parts and ideas that improve and
preserve the cars we love". Your approach seems to be to attack the
high quality and perhaps more important proven fixes that already
exist.

John let me conclude by saying this is not an attack on you
personally or what you are trying to do (I commend you for what you
are trying to do). My problem is the way you have attempted to do
this which in my opinion is more detrimental then beneficial.

Regards,

Mike D.

Hi,

I'm glad you like the pictures, etc., in the vault.

I've been a DeLorean enthusiast for a long time. The pictures came from my
trips around the world. The memorabilia I purchased and collected over the
years.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi all,

While surfing the net for information I found an interesting link
that I thought might intrest a few here on the DML.

http://www.users.bigpond.com/INTERJECT/ksitepln.htm

It's a site that describes the workings of the K-Jetronic fuel
injection system that our D's have. He describes how to clean the
injectors and also has some tech tips. One interesting fact that I
found on the webpage was the fact of not using any type of injector
cleaner that contains Methylated Spirits. The webpage for that fact
is here:

http://www.users.bigpond.com/INTERJECT/KCASE.HTM

I also found interesting that the K-Jetronic can handle up to
260HP! :) Nice to know that if anyone is interested in boosting the
HP in the stock engine they won't have to swap out the Fuel injection
system.

Steve

Subject: DeLorean in Comic Strip (again).  Might be yours!

For the second time in two months, the comic strip "This Modern World"
prominently features a DeLorean.  You can read it on line here:

http://www.salon.com/comics/tomo/2001/03/12/tomo/index.html

Previous cartoon here (features DeLorean w/ doors up and DMC logo):

http://www.salon.com/comics/tomo/2001/01/16/tomo/index.html

I mention this not to start a discussion about politics or the artist's
license with the DeLorean window, but to point out that cartoonist Tom
Tomorrow's depiction of the BTTF DeLorean has none of the time vehicle
do-dads from the movies.  It looks like a stock DeLorean that happens to
be flying.

I Emailed Tom Tomorrow, complimenting the detail and proportion of the stock DeLorean and asking if he used a real DeLorean as a model.  Here was his response:

> Thanks for noticing.  I put a lot of work into these
> small details and I don't know if anyone notices.  I
> used the Delorean as a reference to "Back to the Future,"
> of course.  Worked from a photo I found online, honestly
> couldn't tell you where -- there are a lot of Delorean
> websites out there!

This probably means that some DML subscriber's car has been immortalized in the "This Modern World" comic strip!

My pet peeve is that people are allowed to post without signing there name.

I like the alternative fixes for DeLorean weaknesses.  I wished that I had
thought of them.

IMHO while you may be creative enough and stubborn enough and clever
enough to "repair" the fuel sending unit it is like fixing a Ducy
alternater, sometimes it is better to replace. The origional sender
unit is not well made and even when working is notoriously
inaccurate.Your time would be better spent on improving some other
area of the car, the sender unit problem is easily correctable now
through the efforts of the Zilla line of products. If it seems too
expensive for you just save up enough money till you can afford it
(Your time must be worth something?)I dare say even with all of your
work it won't last long.

At what point did this E-group require signing in just to browse the
posts? You will never know how many "lurkers" are now barred from the
list! I for one think the list should stay public to keep the
participation as large as possible. Eventually if they are interested
they will sign on.

I agree that the response from John was overly strong, however, even I,
as wonderful as I am, sometimes say or write the wrong things, sometimes
it's a mood thing.

One of the first things I noticed on the list was that very often when
someone came up with something he might think to be helpful or useful,
others would jump all over him.  I had heard from the previous owners of
my car that there were so many "flame-throwers" they quit monitoring the
list.

Moderators do a good job, I've been moderated out 4 times in 5 weeks,
that's pretty good (or is this #5) so they are paying pretty good
attention but some of the lines are not that distinct.  Should John's
posting have been moderated out?  Hindsight says yes, hindsight is
always so brilliant, what is always needed is to put hindsight first.

Les

Les writes:
My first thought is that if you have a working display, and you want to
play tapes, it might be wise to try to prolong it's life rather than
waiting for it to break and then working out a fix.

What seems an obvious primary solution is a thin coat of clear silicone seal,
front
and back, at the break point.  That would add strength where desperately
needed and would certainly maintain or enhance flexibility.  I think it
would also move that flex point slightly.

Frank Russo ( from Zilla ):
This is a tough call to make Les.
If you continue to use cassettes it's likely a matter of when and not if.
The only way to circumvent the Display problem is before it happens.
The cable bends at such an extreme angle I doubt if Silicone would have any
useful effect. The flex point will not shift. Close inspection will reveal
this.

My recommendations in order of difficulty:
1 Stop using cassettes
2 Remove the Stereo, wrap it in plastic and place another unit in the car.
3 Reroute the ribbon cable over the hinge bar ( big job )

DMC Joe says: Don't fix what isn't broken...... see 1 & 2

Subject: Headlight trouble

I have discovered that i have a headlight out on low beam.  However, when i
switch to high beam the light comes on.   Is this simply a burned out
headlight, or something electrical?
Also, the lever for the high beams has broken and it now flaps back and
forth loosely.  The turn signal still works fine.  I'm wondering if this is
simply a spring that has fallen out or something more serious.

Thanks
