Marty - Pacific Rim in Seattle did indeed put an Eagle 3.0 in a DeLorean,
using the DMC lower crankcase, modifying the valve covers to take the stock
A/C pump, and using aftermarket electronic F/I. The car owner is online
here so maybe he will jump in. They are right now in the process of putting
a 3.0 block together with a DMC lower crankcase and DMC heads, so I am told.
I don't know anymore yet, but if anyone can do it, John Lane at Pacific Rim
can. (I provided some of the parts for the first car, and so far a pan
gasket for the latest one).

Hi DMCers,
My parents just sent me a clipping from Ulster's "Sunday Life" newspaper
dated 18Feb.'01. Its a neat full page article on the up-coming DMC Birthday
celibrations in Belfast - the "Eurofest 2001". Its got a large photo of Expo
94 in Williamsburg, VA with about 50 DMCs and proud owners on show!
I can scan and email it if anyone wants a gander.
See y'all in Belfast in May! My DMC needs a good run after 1 1/2 years
storage in N.Ireland.

I attended the event that Aaron Posey held in Knoxville TN. and after 748
miles driving in one day I did manage to survive. And get to work Monday
morning
The group met and had lunch at a resturaunt on the river then we headed to
Gatlinberg (the long way). We drove in some of the windiest roads around for
4 hours. At the start there were 7 deloreans and my truck and at the end we
were down to three Deloreans and my truck. (The other owners had to leave at
different times. No breakdowns the cars worked very well)
I'll let Aaron post and tell you all about it.
Thanks for a great road trip
For you concourse owners there is now another one to contend with. Aaron has
a car he bought on E-bay that has I think about 1100 miles on it.
I got a close look at the chasis and engine and they are extrememly clean
(before the ralley)
This will be a car to contend with if its prepared right.

If you want to stay in the tri-state area, give PJ Grady a call.
From time to time his customers are looking to sell their cars, and he can put
you in contact with them. (This is how I purchased my car).
I believe he is also selling "Restored" DeLoreans now. That may be a good
option if you are looking for a hassle free purchase.

I have also been doing a good amount of research about other PRV motors.
With what I have learned so far, I dont understand WHY someone would want to do
this!
Grant it, the Eagle motor is a bit larger (3.0 VS 2.8) and has higher
compression ration (9.3 VS 8.8), when all is said an done the increase of HP
(150 VS 130) in not significant enough to make this conversion. 20HP can be
gained with some simple exhaust modifications to the existing DMC Motor. This
seems like a LOT of work.
DMC Motors can still be had. Although I have not done a exhaustive search to
compare cost of the DeLorean motor VS Eagle, I cant believe this project was
price motivated.
With Darryl's comments below, this becomes even more confusing! Sounds like
they are just rebuilding a DMC motor, and using the 3.0L Eagle block. Again, a
lot of work for a VERY small gain.
Would the owner of this converted car speak up? Maybe there is something I am
missing..

Marc, I'd like to add a little to this 3.0 Eagle motor discussion:
You're right. It's alot of work to go through and not cost effective to do
an entire motor change, including electronics just for 20 HP. This is just
compounded if you have to pay someone to do it. HOWEVER If you are a
die-hard do-it-yourselfer, the swap can be rather appealing. You end up with
essentially a "bolt-in" (not a simple or easy bolt in, but a bolt in none the
less) conversion to a newer, readily available, higher compression, larger
displacement, single serpentine belted, electronically fuel injected motor.
Because of the conversion to electronic fuel injection, I'd rate this in the
moderate to high difficulty and not recommend it for the inexperienced, but
some of us just "gotta do it!" My goal is this: Get some more power out of
the D. Make it a little unique in the engine compartment. Make (keep) it
reliable. And make it something I can maintain. Not that I couldn't
maintain the D's Bosch K-Jetronic system, but I know far less about that than
I do modern EFI systems. If I kept the original motor, I'd have to learn
more about the K-Jet system which would only help me with the D. (And I'm
not planning on becoming a Volvo mechanic) With an EFI motor, what I learn
about EFI can more easily be gained from and applied to other more modern
cars. Also, I think the Eagle motor looks cool. it has a black cover over
the manifold that smoothes things out a bit. (It works with the rest of my
D) : )
Actually I'm just about finished the frame/suspension restoration of Project
Delorean and will be beginning the drivetrain next. I've already purchased
an Eagle Premier (which I drove home) as the "Heart Donor" and will begin
tearing into it soon. I don't have any Eagle motor or engine swap pictures
on the site yet, but I'll get some up soon so stay tuned.

Most of the time, when I open the e-mail, the program

Steve,
You sound like a true car crafter. The Eagle motor has both higher horsepower
and a broader torque curve. You will find your D very enjoyable to drive.
What is nice about the 3 liter swap is that no upgrade to the cooling system is
necessary. An engine/transmission adapter plate, that uses up 1" of space in
the engine compartment, is also unnecessary. This 1" may sound trivial but in
the small D engine bay it is really important.
Take lots of pictures and build a web site. Try to dyno test the car after you
are done. The results will be very interesting.

Marc,
You are correct, for me, this project was NOT price motivated because,
like you said, it's not cost effective. And you are also correct that going
thru all this work to only go from 130 HP to 150 HP doesn't make much sense
either. There are many other easier ways to obtain HP gains with the Delorean
engine.
I undertook this project simply to gain some knowledge about the
differences between some of the various PRV engine configurations which were
produced. I'd heard stories, as many of us had, about swapping these various
engines and parts and stuff, but it was all speculation from people who had
never actually done it, only talked about it.
Since I had the engines available, I figured the best way to find out
for sure was to tear into things and see what we actually had. Like I said
before, I'm really amazed at the differences between these engines. My
understanding of the original intent with the PRV was to share design basics
and, you would assume, share as many parts as possible for cost
effectiveness. I guess, just like with many projects, things didn't work out
exactly as they originally intended. The designs and parts are similar, but
not interchangeable. I now know this as a fact, because I've had the parts in
my own hands and have been able to make the comparisons. I now know what will
work, what may work, and what won't.
Like we said before, you are correct, there are many more "cost
effective" ways of increasing the HP in the Delorean engine compartment. But
for me, my interest is in staying with the original basis of the PRV engine,
only increasing it's performance level (and I'm not just talking about 20 HP
either). This project has allowed me to look into alternative methods to try
and realize these performance increases. I've gained a lot of information
from working with these engines, all of which is being utilized to build my
"new" PRV engine. We'll just have to wait and see what I end up with :-)

In my search for my car, I came across two DeLoreans last year, and was

One was for sale by Gull Wing Motors in NY. It had a TV mounted in the

anyone here bought it, owned it before, or knew why someone would do this!
The other was for sale in North Jersey by a Ryan S. (forgot his last name)

Hey everyone!
The turnout for the first ETDOC meet was great! We cannot
wait to plan another meet.
We all gathered at my place of work from 10-11:30am on
Sunday morning. With all the DeLoreans in place, people
started to come in off the street and look at the cars
(some of my customers called me today and asked me if we
started selling them!).
We left in a convoy for the riverfront in Knoxville to the
recently opened Tennessee Grill. Our table had a perfect
view of our cars. We then left the restaurant to go fill
with gas and head out for the trip.
The road that we chose is supposed to be the curviest road
per length in America (319 curves in 11 miles or something
like that). This really gave each of us a chance to see
how are car handles and performed. At the end of the curvy
strecth we stopped in Deal's Gap, NC (pop. 6) for a short
break. While we were there, several bikers stopped to look
at our cars and ask questions.
We then proceded for Cherokee, NC through more curvy,
mountainous roads. IN Cherokee, we stopped for a more pics
of our cars. Ken lined us all up for the shot through all
the open doors with the cars side by side. The pictures
are getting developed!! While we were there, this lady
stops by and asks how long we will be there because she had
to go get her husband! She hurridly leaves and returns
with her husband to take pics! That kinda stuff makes
owning a DeLorean so much fun!!
We appreciate all that showed up. There were 7 DeLorean's
and 13 people- not bad for a first try at this. The
predicted weather wasn't so perfect (T-storms), but it
cleared up at noon and hit around 70 degrees, couldn't
have been better!!

man, don't even try those places. here's what i did, and many others:
try every single bank and credit union you can find in town until someone
will finance for you. that's all there is to it. every bank has a different
policy with loans for something like this, and eventually you'll find one
that's right. i found a credit union that made me put as much down as i felt
like doing and gave me 9.25% interest on it. they treated it just like any
other car loan. oh yeah, i also had to open an account with them, but i just
keep the minimum balance in my 'savings account'. which is kinda funny
because i had an inquiry with my billing and the lady there looked up my loan
and noticed i have $50 in assets at the bank. she said, 'how did you ever
get this loan approved with only $50 in savings?'. i told them i have more
than one bank, and that surprised her even more for some reason!
the trick is simple. you have to dress well, present yourself well, have
pictures, lots of info on the D you are trying to buy, present printouts of
proof of serviceability, and know the car inside and out. that way they know
you are serious about buying it and you are serious about paying THEM back
(which all they really care about anyway). this is what i did and within
three days i had two places all ready for me to sign the papers. you have to
make them feel like they HAVE to give you the loan!
and get this - i'm a college student with less than $7500 in assets, i'm
living at home, and i work as a manager at a fast food restraurant and i sell
guitars downtown. getting financing for a D was simple once you make the
banks think you can easily handle it.
however, don't be stupid and try to buy a D if you really can't afford it. i
make 3x the money i need to keep my D paid for each month, and i've spent an
average of $300 a month for misc upgrades on the car. i can handle it, but a
lot of my friends couldn't if they wanted to.....
