The problem you are describing does appear unusual. The way I would
start would be to verify that both ends of the shift cable are
connected and adjusted properly. This requires the car to be raised
off the ground and drop the oil and pan. The cable could also have
broken or one of the ends came off. If you find that the shift cable
is working and the trans still doesn't move you could have a bad shift
valve body to a bad pump to blown clutches. The next step would be to
see what the line pressure is. Without good line pressure you won't be
going anywhere. Make sure there is enough trans fluid and it isn't
"burnt". Check these things and get back to the list if the trouble
isn't obvious. If when you pull the pan down and it is full of
friction materiel you will be "biting the big one"(a full rebuild of
the trans).

I don't think so... in fact, the seller is probably a listmember! He/she
is also offering one of those posters we've discussed on the list before...
you know, the one of a DeLorean against a blue background where the
negative was reversed so that it "kinda" looks like a Right-Hand-Drive car
to the untrained eye? People are always misrepresenting it as a poster of
a RHD DeLorean -- I hate it when people do that!
Anyway, I think he/she just picked the DeLorean to draw people's attention
to those little "fake bullet hole" stickers -- which probably wouldn't look
good on a 'D' anyway, because they mimic flaking paint.

When you opened the fuel distributor, did you remove the piston? If you
did, you may have put the piston back in upside down. Also, the needle and
seat on the side of the fuel distributor may have stuck. Give Steve Wynne,
DeLorean Joe or Rob Grady a call. They can tell you which way the piston is
supposed to go in. If you are not close to any of the DMC Service
centers,find a Bosch service center that can check all of the various fuel
pressures and make the proper adjustments to the system.

Before we "beat up" the DOA be aware that my comment was not to infer that
the DOA was placing any restrictions on the use of their photo. What I
should have said was: "you should ask for their permission before
publication."
DeLorean World did an excellent job on the battery belt graphic and they
should get credit for any republication of their materiel; i.e. "DeLorean
World Magazine" or "Photo Supplied By .." at the bottom of the picture.
I've been a member of the DOA for over 15 years and wouldn't want to tarnish
my reputation in any way. All of the preceding are my personal comments and
have no connection with the administrators or staff of the DeLorean Owners
Association or "DeLorean World Magazine".

i know this isn't really the place to post this, but i've already tried the major dealers and i don't think this part is available anymore... so now i turn to you.
i'm looking for a black door pull strap, but i need the one that is on 82's and 83's, which goes into the lower door panel. the 81's (so i am told) are on a ring and go around the door handles. if anyone has the later kind, in black, please email me privately. it would also be nice to get the hardware (screws, clips) as well, though that is not as important. condition is not too important, just so long as it is not ripped or torn.

I understand the concern for QA on the install of the engine mod, but
what about supplying the other D vendors with the parts so that they
can perform them too if they wanted to? It would be very cost
prohibited for someone who, let's say, is in NY to ship there car, or
engine, to TX for the mods then have it shipped back. The cost would
be WELL over the inital $5,000 to do + the time off from work to
drive it down there and back or shipping the engine. I am sure that
the other vendors would have the same concerns as Houston would have
and they would be able to provide he same quality of work for the
same price minus all the shipping charges, driving time/milege.
Just a suggestion.
Ok, now I am probably going to get a little technical here:
Are the headers Mandrel Bent? There is a difference in the bend on a
standard bent header and a Mandrel bent one. A standard bent one does
not have a uniform inner diameter at the bends where it can restrict
the exhaust. A mandrel bent header IS uniform all the way through
including the bends, no restrictions at all. Of course it is a little
bit more money for Mandrel bends, but not much. Also are they ceramic
coated or just bare metal? As you can see I've done my homework on
this. Since the first day I got my D and I looked in the engine
compartment I got sick just looking at the exhaust system in there.
The worst design I have ever seen.
How about a Stage 0, meaning someone can just purchase the exhaust
system alone to get a few more HP instead of plunking down $5,000 at
once? At least this gives the option to a DIY'er (like me :)) to do
it. I can understand the QA of the entire engine mod, but any
mechanically inclined person can install an exhaust system without
damaging the engine. Also if someone did decide to go for the "whole
enchalada" later on they already have part of the system. If you did
only make an "Exhaust only" kit, it shouldn't be that hard to keep up
with the demand for it since you can have a lot of them made and ship
them off as a normal stock item. Or take pre-orders to see how many
you are going to need.
Again just a suggestion.
You said one muffler is installed? Unless it was a typo. If it's only
one why not two? That would be better performance wise.
Now if someone could only come up with a way of putting in Larger
(bored out) cylinder sleaves with matching pistons and a performance
crank to match, that engine would have a nice KICK to it. ;)
I've had allot of people ask me why I would do all of this to a
Delorean engine and not just get an old SS, Mustang or just drop a
small block into the D and modify that engine. Well that would be to
easy since it's been done! I like the challenge...that's what a hobby
is suppose to be. Anyone have an old D engine (working or not) they
are willing to give away for some "experiments"?

Ever since I have owned my Delorean I have tried to battle this problem.
My dash has a dirty/dark brown/black look to the gray. The stain seems to be
gradually
Darker as it gets closer to the windshield!. I have tried several off the
shelf products
with no effect. I have never tried anything too harsh just in-case I cause
"dash-meltdown".
A friend suggested painting it with a vinyl paint.
Is their any cleaner I could try! Or maybe a paint.
Can someone help? Thanks Guys.
PS. As I look at it now, the stain seems to be deeply imbedded into the
dash.
Almost like the previous owner was a long time heavy smoker.

Subject: Fuel economy and the new performance engine
Stephen just got back from Arizona, and our black automatic 'test'
car fitted with the new high performance engine, exhaust, shocks,
springs, and a few other secret projects averaged 26 mpg for the 1200
or so miles highway trip from Phoenix to Houston. Having no real
highway experience with a stock automatic I can't say if this is
great or just good, but I think it's a bit less than a stock
automatic. I used to average around 28-29 in my stock five-speed on
long highway trips (Phoenix-Nashville, Phoenix-Cincinnati,
Houston-St. Louis).
