I saw the DMC stainless trailer on the pndc website. That's a cute idea.
And the tow package. That's just weird (sorry; I know I'd rather a DMC tow my DMC, but still... :)
But what I'm really interested in:
has anyone lengthened a DMC to add another set of seats?
I know JZD was going to produce a four seater if things worked out, and boy I wish they had.
I don't want to risk "ruining" my D, but perhaps some else has. Maybe someday when I have time and money I could pick up another and try that trick.....

Guys,
I was watching Back to the Future a few weeks ago and paused the tape at a
closeup of the spedometer. To my surprise, the car had a 95 MPH
spedometer. Were these ever made, or do you think universal studios just
repainted an 85 MPH one?

Nate,
There are two things that can make the brake light come on. The first and
most obvious is having the parking brake on. The second reason is as a low
fluid warning indicator. There are other reasons why brake warning lights
can come on with other cars, but the Delorean only uses the two mentioned
above. The following is a quote from the Delorean Worship Manual, err, I
mean Workshop manual L:09:01, "Testing the operation of the low fluid
warning device: Press the small rubber diaphragm located on the reservoir
cap, if the brake warning light (on the instrument cluster) illuminates, the
operation of the fluid warning is correct." So perhaps you may be low on
fluid after all.
I doubt that the presence of rain has anything to do with your brake light
coming on. If your car runs bad in wet weather, that is a symptom of a
problem in the ignition system. Perhaps it is from a spark coil sensitive
to humidity, bad insulation on a plug wire, or water getting inside of a
spark plug boot. Another possibility is corrosion in the electrical
connection at the frequency valve. You might try checking that your spark
plug wires are properly seated on the plugs. My D came with two plugs
disconnected! This wasn't visible because the boot hid the problem. The
car still ran pretty good because there was enough spark to jump the gap.
If your brakes go soft after keeping your foot on the pedal for a while,
this is a symptom of a leaky seal in your master cylinder or fluid leaking
out of the system at a bad caliper. If it is the later, then you will soon
run out of brake fluid and you will really have a problem. If a caliper is
leaking, there usually isn't enough fluid involved to make a puddle on the
floor.
It sounds like you need to have your brakes done again. Perhaps the
previous owner was misleading you about the recent brake job or maybe the
wrong type of brake fluid was used which rotted out the seals. Maybe they
did a brake job but decided that the master cylinder or some of the calipers
didn't need rebuilding but now it does.

It actually does light when the parking-brake is applied...
Maybe your micro-switch is disconnected or faulty.
It's part# 100822 and can be found in the partsmanual in
section 6-2-1, on the picture it is pointed out by a 3.

The light also comes on when your brake-fluid is too low, but since that
switch is on top of the master-brake-cilinder, maybe some moisture
is shorting out the switch, makeing the light come on.
On most modern cars there's also a Wear-indicator on the brake-pads,
making the warning-light come on when the (front) pads need replacing.
A DeLorean doesn't have such a set-up, sa you can rule that out for sure.

I'm actually just interested, I really like the original Dash;
hadn't thought so, but since I bought mine I've grown quite
attached to it; the only alteration I might consider is putting
on a different face (170MPH or preferably a 230 (240?)kmh-one).
Unfortunately the km-readings are even closer together on the
170mph-version, making its "resolution" even less...
Couldn't you post the pictures to the vault?
That way everyone can see them, without you having to send them
for every request...

I have solved my odometer matching problem. Rather than mess with the odometer and try to bring up the mileage on the 160mph face to match my original miles, I'm gonna just keep my stock one, swap the speedo faces and recalibrate it. It's easier than dismantling anything and breaking something. If the needle breaks, I'm just sticking with my plain old 85mph face. Thanks for all the replies.

What do you mean by "done" in refering to the brake system? Don't
worry about the brake light yet. It comes on for only 2 reasons, the
parking brake is applied ( or switch out of adjustment) and brake
fluid level. There is no proportioning valve or metering valve to warn
you that a front or rear system has a failure! The first thing to do
is flush thoughly and bleed the entire brake system with Castrol GTLMA
dot 4 fluid. If the pedal still drops away and there are no leaks you
will need a master clyinder. If the light still comes on then you
probably need to adjust the switch on the parking brake or maybe
something is preventing it from going all the way down, the carpet or
maybe a coin got into the works.
On the problem of "running like crap in the rain" the cause is most
likely a high voltage breakdown of some part or parts in the secondary
ignition circuit, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, coil. It sounds like the
car needs a complete going over from brakes to tune-up. I would try to
get the emergency brake "alive" (not dead) again. You must have an
automatic because if it isn't it is very unsafe without and to park in
gear. With the troubles you are having in your service brakes it is
especially dangerous to drive without an emergency (parking) brake.

the way i see it, if the speedo actually was repainted to be 95 mph, then
they would have to fit more increments in the same space, correct? that
means 88mph would not directly correspond to 78mph, it would in fact be
closer to 81mph on an 85mph speedo!!
maybe i'm thinking about this too much...

sorry to post a parts wanted ad to the list, but i'm looking for at least one
switch for the power windows for my 82D with the double-headed arrow on it.
right now i have one that is blank, and one that has the arrow. in my quest
to 'fixing up' my car, i'd like to get this detail. i've tried delorean.com
for the part, but they do not have it listed in any of their online pages.
very strange, maybe these parts are all sold out?
if it makes a difference, i have a black console. i'm not sure if the switch
color varied with black or gray consoles.

If you would like to have metric faces for your dash, then maybe you
should consider the backlit one I'm working on. Printing up metric
faces (including TEMP and OIL PRES) shouldn't be a problem to do.

Hey guys,
I have had my Delorean about a week and have only been able to drive
it once. I would have drove it more but it won't start. I checked the gas
and infact put 2 gallons if 93 octane in it. When I try to start the car it
cranks, puffs out grey smoke from the exhaust(obviously gas smoke) and then
stops. It acts like it wants to start but it doesn't sound like it is
getting a spark. I thought it may be the distributor? I got the car from a
very dry climate and I live in a very cold and damp climate. If that bit of
information helps the diagnosis.

In order for the speedo to be accurate and appear as it did in the movie

OK, lets settle this once and for all. Anyone got this on DVD? If so take the
known length of the car, use it as a reference and figure out how far the car
travels. Divide that by the time taken and we will have the correct speed at
which this movie clip was shot. If this fails to come up with an answer, then
please kill this thread.
