Subject: Clutch is bleeding (instead of bleeding the clutch)
Hi,
I read a posting about bleeding the clutch which maybe helpful to me
but I have another problem, maybe someone can send me in the right
direction.
My hydraulic clutch line is leaking near the end of the car. When I
fill my reservoir it will be empty after about a week and a half.
When I look under my car at the rear, you can see the fluid lying
under the car.
Can anyone tell me where the leak is? Is it near the slave cylinder
or is it the connection on top of the transmission?

Just read a pretty positive article about John Delorean in the 'News
Letter', a newspaper from N.Ireland. My parents posted me the full page
article which appeared in the paper on 16 October, 2000.
It recounted how the DMC fairytale came to an end blaming the Brit.Govt. for
pulling out too soon and the FBI for their dastardly acts! It goes on to
talk about the new car proposals.
Cheers, IAN

Subject: DeLoreans cause accidents!!! (well, indirectly)
I met Dave Teitelbaum at the Palisades Park Mall on friday in the morning.
We were parked in the middle of the lot awaiting any other DeLorean owners
to show up for a caravan to the Fall Faliage tour. While waiting, we heard a
loud screech and a crash! We turned to see a late model Jeep Grand Cherokee
take out the side of some 4-door economy car that was just parked. The
driver got out and yelled "F--K!" I walked over to see what happened, and
after a few minutes of conversation, he admitted that he was looking over at
our cars saying to himself "are those DeLoreans?". And then the next thing
he knew, his bumper was performing a customizing job to someone's car in the
lot. It was a shame that it happened, and I do feel sorry for both the giver
and recipient of the accident, but none the less, it was kinda funny... At
least it wasn't really our faults. You'll all be happy to know the driver
left his info for the owner of the parked car on the windshield. And I wrote
the plate number down and put it on the windshield as well. So, all should
be ok. :-)

If there were no flames, then this might have been steam from a coolant leak.
Generally, things that make smoke without flames build up gradually, while sudden
plumes came from fires and steaming coolant leaks. What color was the smoke?
How did it smell?
> I assumed the engine got too hot, but the temp was only at half way.
Usually the temp indicator will clue you in to coolant leaks quickly. Maybe your
tranny developed a leak?
DMC Joe recommended that you check your tranny fluid level. This is a good idea,
but I think that you need to have the engine running to get a proper reading. If
all your coolant has leaked out you should not start your engine. So my
recommendation is to first make sure that you have plenty of coolant, and that
your water pump looks okay, and that your cooling fans operate normally. Then
start your engine and check your tranny fluid level.
Regardless, we need more information to make a full diagnosis.

Subject: Safety Alert
To The List
Having seen this weekend in Rhode Island many cars I want to alert
the
list to a potential safety problem. The hood is stopped at closing by
two hood bumper stop screws. They can be adjusted up and down. On the
hood are two brackets that do not touch the bumper stops, they are
called restraining brackets and in the event of a severe front end
accident are meant to prevent the hood from breaking the windshield
and entering the passenger compartment. If the bumper stops are
adjusted too low ie: they are not just touching the hood when closed
the restraining brackets would not engage in the event of an
accident.
Also check that the restraining brackets are correctly angled so as
to
engage the bumper stops. An added advantage to correctly adjusting
the
bumper stops is that the edges of the hood won't bounce while you
drive. Push down on the corner of the hood when closed and if it
moves
you probably need to adjust the stops. Alternatively you could put a
dab of grease on the bumper stop and close the hood. Afer reopening
check to see if some transfered to the hood. Do not raise the bumpers
so much that they put an upward pressure on the hood, they should
just
be touching it. Do not use the bumpers to align the hood with the
fenders.

Subject: twin turbo question
Maybe DMC joe or someone could help me.
Every once in a while I come across a Delorean for sale that says "v6
twin turbo, factory installed".
I realize that the stock v6 in the Delorean has a flavour that allows
for the twin turbo, but were any actually twin turbo from the factory?
How many differences are there between the stock v6 and the twin turbo
version?
It is pretty obvious that if you do anything to your delorean that takes
away from it original stock configuration, it will actually reduce its
value (although I have seen some people who painted their deloreans and
thought they were worth more...), so I'm very learly of considering the
twin turbo option.
My delorean is in very good shape so I'd hate to do anything that would
reduce its value.
Thanks to all who reply.
(please reply to jrobbins@xxxxxxx and on the list please)

I've finally got my D, and have driven twice now.
The oil on the dipstick looks good, clean, good operating level, typical
weight. But the oil pressure gauge shows it running towards the top end of
the scale, around 70 (I think). Is this normal?

Subject: Re: twin turbo question
That's easy... 0, zero, zip, none left the factory with "Twin Turbo".
There was a subcontractor for DeLorean, "Legend Industries" that was developing
a Twin Turbo DeLorean to be sold in 1984. DMC went out of business before any
were produced.
There were however a small number of "Legend" card that were sold at the auction
for Legend Industries.
Rob Grady (of PJ Grady) was asked this weekend in Rhode Island how many "Legend"
cars he knew about. He explained that he was at the auction for Legend
Industries, and if I remember correctly, this is his account of the cars sold:
4 cars with what was supposed to be the final design of the Twin Turbo. This is
the version found in car #502 that was for sale (on consignment I think) by DMC
Houston last year.
2 cars with the Renault Alpine setup.
2 cars with a prototype twin turbo setup. I happen to see one of these cars at
PJGrady earlier this year and it looked similar to the Island Turbo kit.
Maybe Mike Deluca can correct me if I made any mistakes, he has it all on video
tape.

Subject: Droopy Doors
Remember the gas struts are not the only thing to blame for droopy doors,
I recently sent mine to our English DeLorean Expert Dave Howarth and he
kindly tested them and sent them back to me saying that they were fine,
(a classic example of a true DeLorean lover not trying to flog me a new
pair for profits sake).
He told me it was probably the torsion bars, after making myself a tool
and with great care adjusting the bars the doors were as good as new
and I have not had to change the struts since. I only had to twist the bar
approximately 2 notches and the doors went fully up without any hint of
sagging after all the torsion bar like the gas struts is going to loose its
spring over time.
good luck
James RG
[MODERATORS NOTE - IT IS GENERALLY ACCEPTED PRACTICE THAT YOU SHOULD ONLY ADJUST THE TORSION BARS WITH FRESH GAS STRUTS IN PLACE. TORSION BAR ADJUSTMENTS SHOULD NOT BE USED TO COMPENSATE FOR WORN STRUTS.]

Only prototypes, and they are quite rare. In actuality they are not made
at the factory, but by engineering companies such as Legend (which made
the most promising prototype).

It's not as obvious as all that, at least not to me. I know I would pay a
premium for a turbo car, although probably not enough to cover the cost of
the kit.
In the case of the Island turbo kit, there are no chassis modifications or
internal engine modifications. If it should happen that the collector
value of DeLoreans should skyrocket, the turbo kit could easily be removed
and the car restored to stock condition. But in today's market, I would
expect a turbo-equipped car to sell for at least as much as a car in
comparable condition with a stock engine. To a collector, obviously the
value is reduced, but most buyers today want a car to drive.

How difficult is it to perform the twin-turbo 'upgrade'? How much
does the kit (if there is a kit) cost? Is it a real improvement?
Sorry about the 20 questions, but thats an option in CONSIDERING for
