Wayne,
You will have to replace the electrical connector plug. The Ducellier uses
a connector all it's own. When you are done, you should have one wire left
over with no place to connect it to the Motorola alternator because it is
internally excited. On the Ducellier plug there are two wires: a brown
with a yellow trace and a heavier all brown wire. The brown with the yellow
trace connects to 'L'. The heavier brown wire should be taped off and not
used.
And if all this blows up in your face, don't blame me :)
It is my experience that all alternators in the Delorean use the same belt.

messages, and it looks as though they originated from someplace in

I have the same problem with mine, although mine aren't done in cloth. So
far, haven't noticed the problem in the passenger seat, and it's used almost
as much. Every 2 or 3 days I find it popped off, and have to stick it back
in. I'd love to hear a response on this one.

It should stay in. You most likely are going to need another
switch (which can be obtained from DMC Houston). I had a
similar problem with my headlight switch. Replacing it fixed
the problem.

How can you say the list is for discussion of "the man" and exclude any
discussion of the new car. Just because the car is speculative, that
shouldn't preclude discussion. You allow speculative discussion of many
other products, like accessories, motors, etc. I would say the discussion of
the Northstar fell into this "speculative" category, but that was
interesting and informative. Same for digital dashboard. As a long-time
reader, I think that if moderators are patient (instead of dictatorial), the
"stupid" postings (watches, etc) will decline, but still some new car
nuggets will be added to the list. I found the mentions of the GQ article,
for example, interesting to me as a DMC owner and list member, but evidently
you would not allow that posting. I am a Republican in politics, but a
little "d" democrat when it comes to free speech. Let's have a little of
that here. My practical suggestion would be for moderators to "moderate" the
watch discussion, but to allow the new car stuff to pass through their iron
fingers.

I deleted the Virus before I could see what time of WORM virus it
was. By knowing this I could find out exactly what it does and tell
you how to find if you've been infected and if so how to clean it up.
If you have Norton Antivirus it should pick it right up with updated
virus definitions. If anyone out there is running their PC without an
antivirus program...BIG MISTAKE. I would suggest to get Norton
Antivirus because I have seen viruses slip pass alot of other
AntiVirus programs such as McAffe. Sorry for using the DML for this
but I felt that is was appropriate since the virus propagated from
someone here on the list.

Week 4, problem 4. Today when driving to work I noticed my speedometer had stopped
working. Dang. However, when I was making a run between buildings, I glanced
down and it was working! I then came to a stop at a light, and when I started
moving again, it was dead again. So when I left the building I went to, I noticed
the speedo needle drop a tad when reversing. When I moved forward, the speedometer
worked fine. So when I came to the first stop, I watched it, and when I started
moving again, it was dead again. I dont know anything about the angle drive,
but this doesn't seem like anything is permanently broke, yet. My theory is
that something tighens up when reversing, and has just enough strength left
for one forward motion. If any of you guys know the angle drive well, could
you shed some light on this? I would prefer not to folk out another $200 this
winter, so if I could repair it, that would definately be my best option. Thanks.

While we are on the subject of perks and auto clubs. I found out the AAA and
some others will BRING you parts (if you are a member obviously). Ie belts,
car batteries, spare tires etc....this is a little known facet of their
advanced memberships. I had them bring me a battery after a friend who
operates as a contractor alerted me to this.

Around my area (connecticut)they(AAA) only allow three breakdowns
(towings) per year, after that they charge you for the towing!!I
would recommend Sears Allstate towing club,as they allow unlimited
towings.And have many more perks.

Subject: Virus update (how to find and remove)
Ok, One LAST post from me about this virus. If you think you have
been infected with this virus, don't worry it does not destroy
anything on your system. What it will do is every Weds between 12am
and 2am it will display (or at least attempt to) an image of Hitler
blowing his brains out with some text saying "Follow your leader".
If you ran the file (not just open the email) then you should check
the following:
In Windows 95/98/NT Go to Start -> Find -> Files or folders and
type in the name INETD.EXE in the "Named" box. Make sure you have in
the "Look In" box "Local Hardrives [C:]" (if you have more than one
hard drive it will display [C:,D:,etc]) selected. By choosing Local
Harddrives it will search all of your drives (if you have more than
one). If the search finds this file, Highlight it in the window and
DELETE IT by pressing the Delete key.
Next thing to do. If you have Windows 95/98 go to Start -> Run and
type in SYSEDIT in the "Open" box and click ok. A window will pop up
with a bunch of other windows in it. Find and select the WIN.INI
window. Once it's highlighted go to the top of the main window and
click search then click find. In the "Find" box type INETD and click
Next. If it finds the name INETD or INETD.EXE in any of the lines,
JUST DELETE THE NAME. I don't know if it inserts itself into an
important and needed line of the WIN.INI file so just delete the name
INETD and leave the rest. Now press your F3 key to search for the
name again in the same file. If it finds it again, do the same thing.
If not it will come up with "Cannot find INETD" or "Finished
searching".
If you have Windows NT than Email me and I will give you a complete
description on how to search your registry to find it.
If any of you have any questions email me privateley and I will try
and help you.

I am commenting, not as a member of the current moderation team, but as a long
time DML subscriber.
I like being in the know on the latest news about JZD's endeavors, even watches
and cars. When someone has a *real* news story, even about new cars and watches,
I would be grateful to see it posted on the DML. For example, if someone orders
a DMC2 watch and actually receives it, I would like to know about that.
However, I am not interested in rumors, speculation, or opinions about new cars
and watches. Those things do belong in another message group, not on the DML.

Subject: DeLorean Dakota Digital Dash
Folks,
So far I have 16 people interested in a Dakota Digital dash for the
DeLorean. Mark Hershey has graciously offered his DMC-12 dash for the 60-90
day R&D required by Dakota Digital. They are willing to make one-offs which
include all 6 gauges mounted and ready to wire in at around $800. They need
between 12 and 20 orders to consider this a "line" of Delorean digital
dashboards. I've asked if they get that confirmation what the price will be
and I am waiting to hear back. Here are some of the specifics:
The colors of the digits and bar graphs are either blue, green, or teal.
>From the list I found out that the speedometer cable is 7/8". This works
with Dakota's setup. The speedometer still utilizes the cable which plugs
into a pulse generator for Dakota's digital speedometer.
The odometer can be factory preset so you can keep your existing mileage and
continue from there.
The tachometer can use existing wires and I have heard of people also wiring
it to one of the plug wires as well.
All the rest of the gauges should wire as normal. The compatible fuel
senders work on the following ranges of empty to full: 10-180 ohms, 240-33
ohms, 0-30 ohms, 0-90 ohms, and 73-10 ohms. The gauges shows percent full
or 100%-0%. I don't have the specifics on the DeLorean's fuel tank sender
yet. Anyone? There is an optional sender in case ours will not cut it.
The gauges can be set to flash at a preset level, such as temperature
flashing above 220, fuel below 15%, etc...and are adjustable in this
respect.
This is what I have compiled so far. All of this and more can be seen by
visiting www.dakotadigital.com. As soon as I have pricing I will post to
the list what they want for the kit. That will be the last post from me on
the fabrication issue. I guess from here I should maintain a personal email
list to not barrage the list with further "digital" posts. Once more, if

I've looked at Dakota Digital's stuff and a couple other digital
dashes. What I'd _really_ like is a digital analog dash. Something like
what the 90 (I think this is the right year..) Chrysler Lebarons had. I
love the retro-tech qualities of kind of setup, and I think it completely
fits the D's personality.
Any one know of anyone who sells anything like this? I've looked quite a
bit and have found absolutely nothing.

Just going to throw my 2 cents worth in. If I were you I would
upgrade to the DELCO alternators that are available. There are two
types, The 105amp one and the 144amp one. You can't go wrong with
either one and it will supply more than enough power for
Air/Radio/Lights on. There is a guy on the DML who sells the 144amp
unit that requires no modification to the car at all. PJ Grady also
sells a drop in 105amp unit. Or you can do what I did, go down to
your local autoparts store, pick up a 105amp Delco unit and install
it. You will have to modify two small things on your car to get it
in. One is the Pivot plate and the other is the wiring harness.
IMHO I feel that by getting an aftermarket unit that is easily
obtainable anywhwere and at any parts store is alot better. If the
unit ever dies on you in the future, you can take it out, go to the
parts store get another one, drop it in and your ready to roll the
same day. PEP Boys has a lifetime warranty on their alternators, so
do some other parts store. If you want more info go to my website

modify, how to go about modifying and the Alternaor P/N.

One quick note about the digital dashboard... in the early Delorean
"documentary" that was being sold by the Room 501 folks, there was a
very quick shot of a prototype Delorean dashboard that looked quite
like an analog/digital hybrid. Some were digital guages, and some
digital guages made to simulate analog. Looked pretty cool, and much
more sophisticated than what went into production. I don't have any
video capture equipment, but if anyone out there with the movie does,
it was near the beginning of the film. It would be totally cool to
get Dakota Digital to manufacture that dashboard.

Hi all,
I have a problem with my front fans. The first time around...they would
come on for about 30 seconds..then shut off. Then briefly come on and shut
off. Talked to Don Steeger...sounded like a circuit breaker problem.So, I
temporarily connected them straight together. Ran fine like it was supposed
to for a day. Now the fans sometimes turn on, but mostly refuse to turn on
at all. Once they are running, however, everything appears to be fine.
I.E.--I ran them for about 5min and they didn't shut off.
I measured the voltage with the "hot" brown/orange wire at the fan
circuit breaker. When they switch is ON and the fans are supposed to work
the voltage reads zero. In the rare situation the fans do work the voltage
reads ~12. So, this means it probably is NOT a grounding problem since I am
not getting power.(For this test I grounded it to the battery neg terminal)
So, is this a relay problem? Can someone out there help me with the
schematics. I.E.--The fan power comes from the battery, thru the relays and
THEN to the circuit breaker, right??

Subject: CD Changer
I got my changer today and I do need to run a power and ground. I am
installing it in the storage compartment behind the drivers seat. All
the cords run well into the area where the computer module is. Can you
simply attach the power and ground to the battery terminals? I'm not to
confident with an exact place to grab the power from nor where to attach
the ground with all the plastic underbody there, where is there a place
for actual ground?
I suppose I could splice into the power line going to the radio? (there
is a built in fuse) since it is always live would this be a good idea?
or should I tap into the fuse box somehow? The power wire is long
enough to make it to the front of the car but the ground wire is shorter
so I will have to find something in the rear deck area to ground it to.
I did get a suggestion to tap into the door lock power but mine are
disabled at the moment. Any advise would be appreciated

I just reread the owners manual for my 82 Delorean. It calls for a
brake fluid change @15,000 mi. and a master cylinder and hoses @
45,000 mi. From this I guess that the factory knew that the brakes
were working hard and subject to a lot of heat. It was never meant
for
the brake fluid to remain in the car for more than about 2 years. If
you do not know the "vintage" of your brake fluid you should consider
flushing it out.This could cause other problems like a bad master
cylinder or leaking caliper seals but they would have gone bad soon
anyway. If the fluid is contaminated it will cause pitting and the
sooner you get it out the better. Also ask yourself if it is all dot

and what brand ( what has been added over the years by how many
owners and gas stations?). The seals in the Delorean tend to degrade
if you use anything other than Castro GTLMA DOT 4. This is a
peculiarity to all things English including Jaguars, Healys, Triumphs
et al are in the same situation. Brake fluid is hygroscopic, that is
it absorbs moisture from the air. In doing that it reduces the
boiling
point and leads to the formation of sludge. As the fluid gets wetter
it gets acidic and attacks the metals in the system. Heat speeds up
the process and you get pitted cylinder bores. The seals swell and
everything leaks. The moral to this short story is if you have any
question about the brake fluid or the brakes are "squishy" first
flush
the brake system.

Well,
I heard back from Dakota today. They think that can base our dash
off of their designer series model number STR1001-S 4X11 6 gauge setup.
This helps both the price and fabrication time. They will make sure it's a
bolt-in, hook-up, add-power, and drive setup. The basic cost if we get 15
confirmed orders is $700. As we get more confirmed orders it drops from
there. 20 will go for $667 and 25 will be $650.
Drop me a line if you'd like to be in on it. I will make a mailing
list and email everyone when we have confirmation and when we can commence
fabrication.
