I've never had any problems -- only less noisy speedometers. Would this be a bad thing to try on a Delorean? Shouldn't the cables be well greased all the way up to the speedometer? I think my D's angle drive is probably due a good oiling. So what is the best bet? For anyone who is interested in attending Nick Kemp's fall gathering in Buffalo, MN on Sept. 17th, I am leading a caravan from the Minneapolis area out to his orchard. Remember, ANYONE is invited to this gathering, so everyone come on over here to Minnesota and show your car or simply check all of ours out. Anyone interested in the event should first directly email Nick Kemp (nkemp'at'pclink.com) and tell him you are coming. Then if you want to join the caravan, email me (ultra'at'isd.net) for directions and the time for the starting location. I hope to see a lot of you guys there! -- Jim Reeve <Ultra> '81 DeLorean-#6960 http://www.dmcultra.com AIM-Ultra2169 ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 5 Date: Sat, 19 Aug 2000 10:50:53 EDT From: jimmuc@xxxxxxx Subject: Ouch! <<Maverick entrepreneur John DeLorean came up with a stainless steel, gull winged sports car. I too hate it when people make totally ignorant comments such as this. It is interesting to note though that this quote also came from the very same page: "1981 -- The first and only stainless steel car, the DeLorean, was built in Canada." ...?!? Obviously wrong on both counts with this bit of 'trivia'. Who ever the guy is who wrote the article is, he must not keep accuracy as a priority. His writing is mediocre and has a very generic feel to it. Kinda get the feeling that he'd have a hard time performing an oil change, let alone be able to describe the history of automobiles and the evolution of their technology. Chances are these postings are the most "recognition" he's ever gotten in his entire career. But what can you do? Saturday September 9 is the Fall Tech Session in Naperville IL. This will be a light-maintenance day (oil changes, door adjustments etc) and a tech session by James and Bill of DeLorean Motor Company. They also expect to be demonstrating one of the cars equipped with the new modified PRV engine. This is open to members of the DeLorean Midwest Connection and the Mid-State DeLorean club. For membership information see www.delorean-midwest.org and www.midstatedmc.com For information on this event contact Dave (dswingle"at"enteract.com) or Marty (wingd2"at"aol.com). (change the "at" to @). Sunday September 10 is the annual British Car Union at Oakton College in DesPlaines IL. This is open to the public. We usually have from 8-15 DeLoreans attending. The total show is over 900 British (including Irish!) cars. Guess Eurofest is a figment of our imaginations too. I like Canada its a great place but they need journalists I guess. I was rolling on the floor laughing at this guy Wouldn't it be poetic justice to have a show sponsored by his paper with him covering it on DeLoreans I will push this thought if there is interest They will have to host it I am kinda burned out still but if they supply a space, dinner and hotel at a reasonable cost (with those kinda comments it should be free to Delorean owners LOL) I will try to coordinate it. I think 20 cars should do it Weekend trip just a thought Ken ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 12 Date: Sat, 19 Aug 2000 21:22:59 -0400 From: "Sean Howley" <tsuyoi@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: DeLorean in magazine Tonight I just purchased the September 2000 issue of Sport Compact Car and as I was reading through it, I came across a DeLorean on page 40 in the "Max Drive" section of the mag. Usually, this section covers cars that have been modified in many ways and always includes a picture of the car. The only thing modified on this DeLorean was the ride height lowered using a "euro lowering kit" which we are all so familiar with. The car is owned by Chris Grubbs and is an '81 - looks like a black interior. Overall, it looks in really good shape. Chris, if you are on this list, congratulations on getting into the magazine! It should be noted that the kits sold by most, if not all, the major vendors are slightly different in configuration than the original setup designed by the original De Lorean Motor Company, particularly in the area of wiring. If you are refering to my car, the only reason the carb sticks up through the engine cover is because it is supercharged. Without the blower, the carb would fit under the cover. But it is kind of interesting to look in the mirror and see the carb, which was exactly the effect I was after. "Near racing configuration"??? I would never have described my car that way.
