Stian - Since you are replacing the window lift mechanism, the best way
to remove the old ones and to gain access to the bolts on the window
is to cut the old lifts at the elbow. This way you can remove the
motor and slide the window down the track.

I just purchased replacement window motor assy's.
Here is my story:
I have access to everything inside both doors, all panels are removed.
And these are my problems:
On the passenger side I have rolled the window a bit down so as to get
access to the to nuts that hold the window to the worm gear. One of the nuts
loosened easily, the other is movable but it is just spinning around. How on
earth can I loosen this one????
On the drivers side, the window is stuck in the closed position, meaning
that the access to the two nuts on this side is virtually impossible. I cant
lower the window enough (read: I cant lower the window at all) and get
access to the nuts through the hole in the door.
Is there anyway to do a shortcut so that the window will lower?
Please respond list, I really need help here!

I couldn't say what it does to stainless (I would assume, nothing), but
rubbing alcohol and especially nail polish remover have been very useful to
me in removing adhesive marks.

There are plans to make information available on a website for EUROFEST 2001
(more later). Previous visitors to these European conventions have posted
their own reports on the event - I expect the same will happen next year.
There have been DeLorean owners from all over the world who've come to
Belfast and feel safer here than in some parts of their own homeland.
(Australia, USA, Germany, France, Holland, England, to name a few). Four
years ago the President of the Japanese DeLorean Club brought his entire
family here, and that was before the peace agreement. Don't be mislead by
media hype - I work in the media and I live in Belfast so I should know how
safe it is. There's more chance of being mugged in Vegas than Belfast, but
that won't stop me attending the DeLorean Expo in Vegas in November because
I've been there before and know that I'll be well looked after.
No - let me buy you a drink at the Rio.

Last week, we changed the A/C compressor's seals to get it air tight.
When completed, we brought the car to an A/C shop to replenish on R12 (I know it is expensive...)
But after trying to load the gaz, the mechanic stopped because the compressor would not start, and he could not mesure the pressure without the compressor starting...
The problem is that the compressor would not work without gaz pressure... So the mechanic refused to replenish the system!
So what is the usual procedure to load R12 gaz after you emptied the system?

I completely agree with Chris P. Don't be afraid. Do not let your fear
decide what you should do / not do in life. And another thing, I do not
think DeLorean owners are a prime target! I would guess that the majority of
the people up there know what DeLorean did for them. For the first time many
got the first (and last) job ever. Protestants and Catholics working side by
side. They were let down by Thatcher's government. I think I read that
somewhere that it took about 6-10 million pounds to close the plant, and it
would have cost only 4 million pounds to save it (developing the euro-models
so that this market could relieve the recession in America).
Im going to Belfast next year and Im bringing my DeLorean. I think there is
going to be a parade of cars driving not only the test track, but a parade
in down-town Belfast.
Whoever of you who has got the chance to bring your DeLorean, please do do.
The event will mark the 20th anniversary for the DeLorean Sports Car.
For those of you who have seen the movie "Tucker - the man and his dream"
will remember all the cars showing up...
Let us show our cars to the world in May 2001!!!

I was wondering if anyone out there could shed some light on this question.
My neighbors have a
Volvo 760 Turbo Intercooler SW that overheated once too often and they plan
to junk it. It's a 4 cylinder automatic, but I was wondering if there were
any parts that might be compatible with the DeLorean. He said I was welcome
to take whatever I liked. (The engine obviously won't work).

I'll make this quick. I just removed my passenger side door because I
had to remove the front hinge hinge and add 2 more shims so it wouldnt hit
the T-panel. I got the door off and back in, in 30 mins but I have to leave
for work now so I cant put the Torsion-bar in.
I adjusted both doors last month with a 1/2 in torque wrench with a
craftsman 1/2(made for impact wrench-black metal) to 3/8 connector to the
allen socket. It worked but the torque wrench was bowing a little. It goes
up to 140 foot pounds. how much torque does it require to adjust the t-bar?
I would hate to have it break on me. I am also going to move the other T-bar
back 2 notches. I hate how fast my doors open, I like them to almost sag a
little.
any info would be appreciated. I am adjusting them tomorrow at 1:00

Caution:
Do not adjust the track adjustments unless you are absolutely sure they need to be adjusted. There are 8 track adjustment fasteners, adjusting one will effect another, this makes for a very complex alignment procedure especially if you have never attempted this procedure previously.

Stian,
To remove the spinning nut remove the entire glass section ( you may have to cut the drive cable) and move it to a work bench, use conventional procedures to remove the nut.
In the door where you are unable to roll the window down remove the three motor mounting bolts and the cable tube mounting bolt and partially pull the motor out of the door. As you pull the motor out of the door the window will move down allowing you access to the glass retainer nuts.

Robert is correct about lubricating this area of the shift linkage. The factory was aware of this problem and issued Service Bulletin ST-19-10/81 which instructed dealers to check this area for alignment, proper fastener installation, and lubrication.
We routinely check this area on DeLoreans that we service.

Why the pivot bolt snapped...
The problem that I and other owners have had with the pivot bolt
breaking was probably caused by one of, or both of the following
problems:
1. Lack of lubrication between the pivot bolt itself and the
gearchange assembly. This combined with 122° plus temperatures
outside (and heat directly from the engine) may have caused the
assembly to 'grab' the bolt, and shear it into 2 pieces-

The prototype was spotted sitting in a driveway rotting away a few years ago.
If you search the archives you will find the post. The person desribes it
as a car with no louver and the sliding windows which never went into a
production car so it must be one of the prototypes. keep in mind that there
were almost 20 prototype vehicles.
Does anyone know where the "first" De Lorean is now. My friend bought
Bricklin vin#001 in 1981 from a museum in Chicago (Skokie). The first
DeLorean and also the first 300 sl gullwing were there also. the owner of
the DeLorean offered to sell the car for $60,000 in 1981 but he was not
interested in the DMC. (he just bought one last year) Does anyone know
anything more about this DMC, is it still there?
He now has Bricklin #001 up for sale for a rediculously CHEAP price. It
has basically never been touched its whole life, museum and then to a lift
where it sat in a carcoon. I went to see the cars(he also owns the last
Brick) and they are prefect. The reserve for 001 is well under $20,000 which
I think is a bargain for such a rare car. it has no mods and even the
original hydraulic doors. just curious about the first DMC. sorry if I got
a little off of the DMC topic.

I agree with Rob Lamrock ... last month I holidayed in USA, riding a motorcycle from NewYork to SanDiego via Boston, Philly, Baltimore, DC, Indianapolis, Iowa, Nebraska, Denver, Salt Lake City, Vegas, & LA (some very rough towns in that list!!!) Belfast is a mild town compared to my list of USA 'arsenels!'

I would love to take my Delorean to Ireland. However, I have no idea how I
would manage to get it there, since I don't think I can convince James Espey
to drive it there for me this time. :-)
I realize that it would take a slow boat and thus a long time (possibly

driving my left-hooker on roads made for righties. That is, can I get a

As most club members will know, I worked in the DeLorean Plant from the day the plant opened to the day it closed.
I am now 57 years old I have lived in BELFAST all my life .I have 3 children all over 30 yrs.and Four grandchildren all living in Belfast.
I have travelled all over the world Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok, Australia, East and West coast of America, Germany, South Africa.
and more.I can tell you I would not live anywhere else in the world only BELFAST.
Yes at times we do get a bad press but thank God that's in the past and we are in a new dawn.
Come to Belfast enjoy Eurofest 2001.Take it from someone who lives here in BELFAST not some one sitting in an armchair in
Las Vegas.
If its anything to go by the last Eurofest was most enjoyable,I know, because I was there PARTY PARTY PARTY.

When I was troubleshooting my A/C system, I discovered that the pressure
switch is located on the receiver/dryer "can" in the right-side wheelwell.
If you jump the two prongs in the connector on the wiring harness, it should
fool the compressor into coming on.
However, I would be inclined to take my car elsewhere, since many A/C
systems have a low-pressure cutoff, and most A/C technicians should know
that (and how to deal with it).

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but there is only one Low Pressure cutout
switch in the DeLorean mounted behind the right front wheel. But that would
not have activated without the compressor coming on even for a short time.
You say the compressor would not start, did you re-connect the red wire on
the top of the compressor when you re-installed it. Trace the red wire back
to the wire harness where it goes into the Integument and plugs into the
firewall. Sometimes these connectors get corrosion on the pins and cause
intermittent electrical connections.

Last week, we changed the A/C compressor's seals to get it air tight.
When completed, we brought the car to an A/C shop to replenish on R12 (I
know it is expensive...)
But after trying to load the gaz, the mechanic stopped because the
compressor would not start, and he could not mesure the pressure without the
compressor starting...
The problem is that the compressor would not work without gaz pressure... So
the mechanic refused to replenish the system!
So what is the usual procedure to load R12 gaz after you emptied the system?

First a vacuum pump should be used to remove air and moisture from the
system. It takes about 20 to 30 minutes. Then he should charge the system
with 2.2 lbs of R-12. No A/C system will turn the compressor on without
proper pressure. May I suggest that you stay away from that mechanic? He has
no idea how the A/C system works.

Hi all--
After an exhausting Saturday working on the "D" I have come across a
semingly unique a/c problem. (Marty/Micah pipe in where needed...) I hope
maybe someone can help me troubleshoot.
When I bought the car, it was missing the A/C belt, presumably snapped
because of seized bearings in the idling pulleys. So, I put on a new belt,
turn on the A/C. Compressor works good, pressure builds to required level,
then compressor cuts out. Normal. This goes on for a couple minutes and all
is good, then compressor keeps going despite dangerous High Pressure values.
We reached nearly 350psi before turning the A/C off for fear of busting a
pipe. Turn back on the sytem...works good for a couple minutes then the same
thing. So what's the problem?
I am thinking we may have a bad high pressure switch that doesn't shut the
compressor off properly?(But why would it initially work, then suddenly
climb out of control??)
A second more realistic solution is a clogg in the evac? hose. So air
intially escapes, but then clogg works towards screen and gets caught in the
hose...thus air can no longer "escape" and pressures then build.
Compressor apears to work great...system works good for a couple minutes
then goes crazy. Two smaller problems(I think are unrelated...but I will
mention). Previous owner installed a clockwise fan, so I have air flow to
the outside!!. Also, front fans will quit even though the compressor runs.
The fans turn on with A/C but quits a few moments later, despite
sytem/compressor still working.(Relay problem??)
Can anyone out there help? Where are you A/C specialist type people...

As long as the terminology "dirt cheap" is used in association with DeLorean
by reference to parts, the car and things related to them . . . they will
never rise to the prominence of a sought after, valuable, collectible
treasure and investment.
Everyone is looking for a bargain or a "good deal" however, I find the term
"dirt cheap" offensive.
This is the second time that I have spoken up to this forum regarding a
situation in reference to "cheap" when speaking or referring of these
automobiles.
Am I the only one bothered by this? Are the moderators not concerned?
Maybe this person should just have gotten a "Chevy." Those 20 year old cars
and parts are in fact . . . "dirt cheap."
