I just finished reading Stainless Steel Illusion i forget by who, and it
shows an internal picture of hoe the doors are supported. I belive there
was a discussion of patents last week and i think somebody said DeLorean has
a patent on the support but i am not sure. The doors have a steel support
structure in the back that holds up the doors.

I was wondering if anyone knew what if any metal bracing there is embedded in the fiberglass of the D's roof panel (between the doors) i.e. Are the door hinges bolting essentially through fiberglass only or is there an embedded plate or plates of some sort? I guess this requires someone either having tried to drill through this area or having seen a seriously damaged roof section which might have fractured the fiberglass exposing it's internals.

Erik,
Referring to 8/7/1 remove the window support bracket #4. Remove the two 10mm bolts that attach the cable drive to the glass carrier bracket. Pull the glass up until the carrier bracket nylon track runners make contact with the stainless steel inner door section. Carefully bend the stainless inner door section lip enough to allow the track runners to clear the stainless lip. Pull the glass up and out of the door.
When replacing the glass be aware that there are nubs located on the inside of the nylon track runners that will interfere with replacement of the runners onto the track. With the use of a small screwdriver align the front and rear track as to bypass the nubs.

Subject: I have a great OIL filter
I've been using the cross-referenced filter from the mid-nineties SC400.
Fits PERFECTLY and does not interfere with the oil sensor.
BTW: I bought one of "Midwest's" oil gauge sensors. Man, does that work
like a CHARM! No more fake 80+ oil pressures at idle.

Hi everyone.. i just recently replaced my fuel pump
assembley (everything).. and damnit i still get some
gas smell coming in... i checked the area tonight and
saw that gas was filling up inside of the boot and
surrounding the pump and contacts.. i had this problem
before and it kind of unnerves me to think of gas and
electrical connections in contact.. so my question:
Will RTV sealant hold up submerged in gas?
I want to seal up the boot so no gas can get in :)

Give D1 a call, and verify the story. I would suspect they would have a
good amount of information on the car if they service it.
As far as storage goes, it is not uncommon to find a stored DeLorean for
sale. Follow all of the guidelines that have been discussed many times
on the list when selecting, and reviving any DeLorean.

Hi Erik,
First lower the window. Then you'd have to remove the upper door panel (no
bolts, just fir-trees) and then remove the bracket just beneath the window
(about 6 screws). If you movethe window up, it will fall a little to the
inside of the car (door closed). Take the window in your hand and pull it
out. That should do it.
Do you also have a used right toll booth window for sale?

While we're on the subject of toll booth windows... My pasenger side TB window seems to sit too far forward. It's level, but hits the front of the fixed glass opening about a quarter inch before being completely up, leaving a slight gap at the top and rear. I removed the door panel and looked, but didn't see a means of adjusting the window forward and back. I was wondering if there is a way or does the fixed glass have to be moved? (hope not)

Subject: door removed-T-bar question
Hello,
I'll make this quick. I just removed my passenger side door because I
had to remove the front hinge hinge and add 2 more shims so it wouldnt hit
the T-panel. I got the door off and back in, in 30 mins but I have to leave
for work now so I cant put the Torsion-bar in.
I adjusted both doors last month with a 1/2 in torque wrench with a
craftsman 1/2(made for impact wrench-black metal) to 3/8 connector to the
allen socket. It worked but the torque wrench was bowing a little. It goes
up to 140 foot pounds. how much torque does it require to adjust the t-bar?
I would hate to have it break on me. I am also going to move the other T-bar
back 2 notches. I hate how fast my doors open, I like them to almost sag a
little.
any info would be appreciated. I am adjusting them tomorrow at 1:00

My guess is that you have a leak in the fitting that connection the returns
fuel line to the tank return tube that routes fuel back to the tank. This can
be dangerous have it fixed properly.

Instead of trying to seal up the boot, I think you should check your tubbing
fittings, one has to be leaking for gas to be getting on the top side of
your pump.
But then again, I could be wrong...sure would not be the first time!

Does anyone know the details regaurding the prototype Delorean? I'm
talking about the one that was pictured in Stainless Steel Illusion.
It was the car with brown leather interior and airbags. Its front end
looked longer than the production D, and it didn't have the louvres
in the rear. Was this car drivable or just a show car? Is this car
still around today, and if so where is it?

I meant no disrespect to any D.O.A. members by my posting. I only
wanted to point out that at the last event that was also very well
attended by D. O. A. members it was barely mentioned in passing. I
hope that they not only accept the article that is submitted but that
it doesn't lose too much in the editing process. I know how they
don't
always come out like you send them in. This could be the beginning of
a new relationship, I just would wait to see it really happens before
anyone says it already has. I feel we cannot give Ken Koncelik enough
credit for the fantastic job he did almost singlehanded in 98 and the
again this year and I would like to see the D.O.A. aknowledge his

It's not my intent to open a can of worms or create bad feelings, but I have
to say something about your reply to David Teitelbaum.
I agree with your reply to him with one exception. You quoted David as
saying, "Also let's not forget that JZD was there..." and you replied. "Of
course the article mentions JZD! How could anyone overlook him?" You cut
short David's quote. He actually said, "Also let's not forget that JZD was
there (he has yet to attend a doa event)." I'm not attacking the doa, but
to miss quote even a little is unfair. Maybe I'm wrong, and if so I'm
sorry. But it seems the way you answered him was unfair.
Please, if your going to quote then quote the ENTIRE line! We all know how
easy it is to misquote someone by editing there remarks. I think you
removed his entire point by editing whether you intended to or not.

A body shop in Milwaukee told me they would refinish DeLorean panels they had
'bumped out' with 80 grit in a belt sander going in the direction of existing
grain pattern. Your scratches can probably be removed with a scuff pad
(flexible sanding pad) available at auto or hardware centers.

An interesting note about the drawings is that they show a
slightly differant design for the pivot bolt assembly. In the process
drawings there appears to be a set of bushing bearings to fit between
the pivot bolt and the gearchange arm. A possibilty may have been
that the engineers forsaw possible problems with the bolt hence the
bushings, but they were perhaps removed later on to save money on
tooling.
Now for the update:
Last night I went to Pep Boys to get a replacement bolt. As luck
would have it the guy who helped me had done an alignment for a
DeLorean about 2 weeks ago, and had seen the bolt and assembly
himself. He came up with a solution for both a temporary bolt and a
permanent replacement. For the temp. bolt he cut a section of large
steel brake line as long as the unthreaded portion of the broken
bolt, and then slid it down to the head. This will allow the high
tensil bolt to be fit into place, but the sleeve installed will
protect the gearchange arm from getting damaged by the sharp threads.
Screw the bolt down, but don't tighen it against the gearchange
plate. Instead place an additional M8 nut on the exposed bottom &
tighten it up to the nut welded to the chassis. This will assure you
that the bolt will not "wiggle" out while you are driving down the
road.
An added bonus is that the top portion of the bolt is wider now so
the gearchanged arm cannot rattle around. However, this is only
temporary. The steel that the brake line is made from is softer than
the bolt, so over time the threads may cut into it, though it's way
too early to tell right now (maybe if the threads were wrapped in a
thick layer of teflon tape first...).
For the replacement bolt, the guy suggested a high tensil M10
bolt. Cut it at the top to measure out where the wider smooth portion
will be. Then tap the remander of the bolt to an M8 1.25 thread. This
would produce the exact same version of the bolt, only now it would
be made from high tensil steel. The guy made it sound pretty easy,
but I would like a little imput on how I would go about doing this.
When I get a chance I'll write up an addition to the technical
library on this. Plus I'll try to include some photos & illustraions
as well (I've been so busy I haven't even finished with the
electrical distributor addition yet!). Any questions, you know what
to do!
