Had my D since February and never been stuck anywhere. But... yesterday I was backing out of my driveway to jockey around my vehicles when on trying to restart... it wouldn't. Just a grunt like a nearly dead battery. Headlights are bright, so it isn't that. Battery treminals look clean like new. Tach spun 360 degrees counter clockwise when I cranked it. I didn't try beating my head on the steering wheel like Marty McFly. Any ideas? -Wayne 11174 ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 2 Date: Tue, 11 Jul 2000 03:39:22 EDT From: delorean31@xxxxxxx Subject: Re: Brake Dust Shields I have the Brake Dust Shields installed on my car. I purchased them from DeLorean Motor Center. I too had a concern about heat build up. Don Steger said this was not a problem and they are indeed designed with small directional air vents. I drove to Cleveland and back to NJ with them on my car (1,050 miles). There were no problems whatsoever. I know the issue of heat build up is one of concern but is it *really* that much of a problem? I am *so* tired of cleaning off the dust build up on my rims that I am considering purchasing the shield to thwart off the accumulation. Here in Maine there are no stop and go traffic issues as was the case in Los Angeles. So would this be a deciding factor? Where can you purchase these shield? I'd appreciate opinions. Been charging just below the red line at about 10. Could that be it? Still, it came on me suddenly, no gradual pooping out of the cranking strength. -Wayne 11174 ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 4 Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2000 21:51:26 -0800 From: "F.S." <melvnhel@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: Dot 4 and my BUMPER!! Hello list, Today I replaced my slave cylinder and while I was bleeding the system some brake fluid spilled on my bumper. I did not notice it right away but when I did I freaked out and cleaned it up. It was not there for a long time but when I cleaned it up it had left a stain where the fluid was. I tried windex and nothing, I thought that maybe it had dried the area so I put Armor-All and it is still there. The bottle says that it might damage the finish if it lands on it. Does anyone know if this chemical is bleach-like or does it just destroy oil and moisture like a degreaser. I was wondering if anyone has had similar experiences like this and If so were you able to clean up and get rid of the stain. I know that it is really really going to annoy me everytime I look at it!! Help Thanks Felix ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 5 Date: Tue, 11 Jul 2000 07:55:58 -0700 From: "Grimsrud, Knut S" <knut.s.grimsrud@xxxxxxxxx> Subject: Tie rod end grease boot fragility I just replaced the steering rack on my '83 (130K miles) with a refurbished unit from DMC. The new rack went in relatively painlessly and had the desired result in taking the slop out of the steering (I'll include a complete installation writeup in the next newsletter). I noticed what seems to be a common problem that I'm hoping to get some help with. Both the tie rod end grease boots on the old rack I removed were split. Before installing my new rack, I moistened the new tie rod end boots a bit in order to resure as much flexibility as I could with them, but when I installed the new rack one of the new boots split on installation when the tie rod end was tightened up. The tie rod end grease boots I have are the beige transparent variety. What is the solution to avoid splitting the tie rod end grease boots? Is this a common problem with the tie rod ends and is it caused by the crease boots becoming brittle over time? Is that metric? 5/16 is exactly .3125 .317 is approximately 8.05 mm ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________
