Subject: Reverse Alarm + Wider Rear View Mirror
Thought I wanted to share this with all - some months back I bought a
combined reverse light/alarm. It is a combined bulb/alarm for one of the
reverse lights. So when you put your DeLorean in reverse and start to back
up, there's a loud "beep-beep" being broadcasted to everyone around your
car.
"Cool" some may say, yet it is practical too, thinking of how low the
DeLorean is, and the limited visibility you have looking in your rear-view
mirror or turning your head when you back up your DeLorean.
In other words, I consider the reverse alarm both a cool and practical
add-on. It really is a safety feature. You don't have to do any
modifications to the DeLorean. You simply replace the original bulb with the
new unit.
I chose to install it on the right side of the car, since there is a slight
reduced glow from the bulb connected to the alarm, compared to the regular
reverse light on the left side. And I wanted to have the brightest reverse
light possible on my driver's side.
I might add that I've installed a "hook-on" rear-view mirror that is wider
than the original. No modifications needed! You just "clip" it over the
original rear-view mirror. So now I have a very good rear-vision. I
recommend this also.
Both a wider rear-view mirror and the reverse alarm is easily obtainable
from the major autoparts-suppliers. But if anyone out there has questions
regarding this, feel free to e-mail me and I can get what you want. The
price for both the reverse light alarm + wider rear-view mirror is about
$15,- over here in Norway.
Best wishes

Hello ALL,
I am replying in the forum just to clarify an important issue : making
payment
Hello Tom,
Yep I did stop replying for a very good reason, you need to pre-pay to get in
the completion "Q", Which is where the custom personalized manual and
box-ART are created.
As stated many times in the past the edition manufacturing is complete,
and I am currently printing the manuals and box art for the few remaining
editions, which are shipping as they are completed. The whole limited
edition project has taken a lot longer than I ever imagined it would, and
now that most are out the door and I no longer have the time to just do the
kits and nothing else, it takes even more time to complete a kit. As
demonstrated at the Cleveland 2000 show two kits were available to see one
the Cleveland 2000 special Gold edition and the one sent by hand with Ken
Montgomery to D. Swingle who posted it as a photo standing with JZD, the
kits do exist and are available.
Yes as I promised I am still holding you kit which is finished and sitting
on a shelf.
I have held you kit longer than any one else waiting for payment making it
the exception, it is still yours if you want it, but you need to take care
of making that payment.
It's only fair considering all the other owners who paid long ago. I have 5
remaining kits which are available by virtue of the fact that the original
reservation holders never paid or sent bad checks/credit card information.
All have been contacted several times and failed to correct the problem.
Hopefully the e-mail Internet problems are now all corrected and I should
get all e-mail sent to me, you can try e-mail again if you wish, try

Subject: Control Pressure Regulator
I am a firm beliver that when something good happens something of equal
bad value happens. After the great time at the Cleveland show I was
expecting the down side all the way home from the show. Nothing, a
perfect trip.
After attending Rob Grady's fuel system presentation I again attacked my
fuel system when I got home. Putting my pressure gage between the
control pressure regulator and the center tap on the fuel distributer I
evaluated the fuel system pressures. Turns out my pressure regulator was
inoperative.
I removed the fuel control pressure regulator from the left side of the
engine to my work bench and proceeded to disassemble it. There are four
bolts holding the halves together, these removed without a problem and I
opened the two halves. Inside some small critters had erected a nest
inside the regulator completely filling all open space inside.
Apparently the point of entry was the "U" shaped vent tube. I also found
that the fuel supply port to the regulator was also completely plugged.
This port has a small screen covering the opening into the regulator. I
blew compressed air into the outlet port and blew out the garbage
blocking the inlet port. Put the thing back together and it works great.
One start when cold and smooth acceleration when you step on the gas.
But I'm still waiting for the sh-- to hit the fan.

I was looking at what I though was a Renault specialist site, I assume they
knew what they were talking about??? I cannot remember the source as this
was little while ago now. A beakdown of the 2.85 Venturi PRV was listed and
I remember the 'even firing' standing out as I remembered that the PRV in
the DeLorean is odd-firing.
Are you saying that there is no way at all that an even-firing PRV is
possible???
Any comments from you more technically minded individuals are most relevant.
Am I right in saying that odd-firing is less desirable because it limits
performance modifications????

Subject: My first month!
Hello list,
THIS IS LONG!
This is my first month of ownership of my all time dream
car. After all that is happpened I have no regrets of
buying the car. DMCJoe as turned out to be an asset to me
and has really been a great guy to talk with. I am now
helping him out on coordinating a location for a service
call in my hometown. The list has also been a fantastic
source for information. I have been a list member for over
2 years and this list helped me decide that I did want the
Delorean. I have met one local Delorean owner through the
list, Sean Howely. He said if I ever needed is help just
to let him know. All the Delorean owners I have talked to
have been so helpful.
The best part of owning the car is everyones reactions! I
get all kinds of people coming in to see it and ask
questions. The car sits in a showroom at work and people
come in just to see it. They say that someone told them
there was a Delorean in the showroom. Word spreads fast!
Here is how my month has went so far. If anyone can answer
any of the questions I have please email me off of the list
or do so on the list if you think that it is info everyone
should here:
Week 1...Go to put gas in car to make sure it is full. The
needle does not work, need tankzilla! Anyway, the gas
overflows from the fuel pump. The boot was not securely
clamped on and the gas pushed the fuel pump out of tank.
Causing it not to start and had to have it towed. The tow
truck comes, it is the same one that brought the car to me
when I bought it, kinda embarrasing but who cares!
A hole develops in the hi a/c hose going from
condensor to compressor...so no freon, ugh. IT is hot here
in E.TN. Get new hose 2 weeks later but still not on the
car.
Week 2...Car just sits waiting for repairs. When my
mechanic did the work to the fuel pump and he clamped it
back down he had it slightly twisted and then I had a
humming noise and the car was starving for gas. He fixed
it towards end of week.
Week 3...Drive car out a little, but it is so dang hot!
Show the car off to some friends. Replaced the door struts
and luvre struts. So far the only money spent on parts, not
bad, eh.
Drive the car to my friends grandfathers house
that is dying of cancer. They do not give him but about 4
weeks to live and when he found out I had a Delorean he
wanted to see it. When I show up he goes out to see and I
take him around the block.. His wife said that is the first
time he had been out side in over a month. I felt like I
made him feel better.
Week 4...Get the a/c hose but has not been installed. I
clean the stainless with Sheila Shine that a friend bought
me. The car stands tall now! Tonight I would drive the car
home and notice the speedo has stopped working! Just add to
my list. Tonight is the first night that the car is
sleeping at my house! Had to put the Cadillac outside.
That is my rundown of the month. Starting miles is 455,
now it has 514.9, but I drove it 4 miles w/o the speedo
working. I am going to order fanzilla. When I use my power
locks the car dies, so I guess that means lockzilla. I need
tankzilla. My power windows don't work, so new regs. FIX
SPEEDO! What do I do for that? How do I adjust hood? The
radio doesn't work, needs new fuse? There is a rattle in
pass area, neeed to find a fix. Need to turn rotors, is
that possible? And would like to get new tires. Orginals
are perfect with only 500 miles but just want performance
of the Yoks. IF anyone can think of anything I need to know
please let me know!
Sorry it was soooo long!

Not on all DeLoreans!! On mine, the light comes on about 1 minute before
you run out of fuel. Actually, it may have only been about 30 seconds. :(
If the DMC low fuel light is like most cars, it is triggered by a certain
level of resistance on the fuel sending unit. On mine obviously, that level
is reached just as it runs out. Yours sounds closer to what was intended.
Needle position is also determined by the resistance of the sending unit,
but the calibration leaves something to be desired on most D's. Mine is
actually pretty close on the gauge. It goes to to slightly over full when
filled with gas, and runs out exactly on Empty. I would wish for a bit more
leeway at the low end. :)

Hi all,
Just wanted to share with you some pictures of the custom CB radio antenna
bracket which my dad made for our DeLorean.
The bracket utilizes the existing screws on the protective fascia above the
rear window, and it is positioned above the rear of the T-panel. It looks
pretty neat, and the bracket is totally removable.
As for the wiring, well we just ran the wire down the back of the car, down
through the engine compartment, into the cockpit, under the centre console,
and up to the CB radio. Easy peasie Japanesie :-)
You can check out the pics on my DeLorean website at

wheel bearings there is no play. The rack and pinion seems tight when I
do a side to side check. Ball joints are unknown. How do I check for
ball joint play? The shock bushings do need replacing, although there is
no excessive play in them.

Subject: Re: Fuel Pump Buzzing
Me and a friend have also fabricated a "custom" fuel pickup line
(suction hose) on his DeLorean after he had problems when the gas
tank
heated up. What we did was buy some thick, braided PVC hose, a brass
90 degree fitting, and a new pickup screen (suction strainer). The
PVC hose is very thick and does NOT want to kink or collapse. We cut
two lengths of this to attach to the 90 degree fitting which went to
the fuel pump and baffle. (Link to a picture of this below). There
are only 2 drawbacks to what we did.
1 - There is no bend in the end of the hose in the baffle, so the
pickup screen isn't laying at the bottom of the tank.
2 - There is no slack in the line what-so-ever, so it must be
attached
to the baffle first and then very carefully connected to the pump
right at the opening to the tank.
But since installing this he has had no problems. Although his fuel
pump did die on us on the trip out to Clevleand. (Which was GREAT!
Thanks Ken!) Luckily, DML moderator Bruce Benson just happened to
have a spare pump which we were able to install and be back on our
way. It is possible that the pickup line was damaging the pump while
it was collapsing, but the pump chose to die a couple months later.
Supposidly, the previous owner of his car did replace the fuel pump
last summer. If that is the case, I would strongly reccomend
everyone
cleaning out their gas tanks and getting new pickup screens and
hoses.
To see a picture of what we made, check out...

Also, if you wish to see what his old pickup screen looked like...

One more thing, the owner of this car I keep talking about is Ryan
Stroschein.

Ok, here's what happened...I decided to change the 3 bolts holding the fuel
filler neck. I did that, then suddenly discovered a wire hanging loose in
the fuel filler "compartment" when I checked the clutch fluid level.
At the same time I discovered that the 3 bolts I had just replaced did have
a nut on each, holding the bolt from the bottom up.
Well, one of the bolts did not have this nut. I looked under the car and
sure enough, there was the missing nut! I believe that the loose wire is
suppose to be between the bolt and the nut. Is this correct?
I can't find anything in the Manuals? So what does this wire do? It has an
"O" fastener on the end (To be threaded onto a bolt), so I suspect that is
is a ground wire? I believe the wire is black... Where is it supposed to be
connected...
Please help!

Chris,
I was a bit hasty in my response. If cost is no object, and the Venturi was
quite expensive considering it didn't look all that exotic, a crankshaft
with a separate journal for each cylinder would make an even firing engine.
99% of the worlds 90 degree V-6's are odd firing because of the simplicity,
cost , and reliability of making a crankshaft that has three journals with
every two cylinders sharing one. Many modern V-6's now have their cylinder
banks at 60 degrees which makes an even firing engine when six cylinders are
involved. Many early V-6's were derived from 90 degree V-8's which are even
firing when cylinders share crank shaft journals. Lopping off two cylinders
makes the math come out different and the result is odd firing. My wife's
Taurus SHO with a 60 degree V-8 is just the opposite. It was derived from a
60 degree V-6 and it now is an odd firing engine with a balance shaft
installed to smooth things out. That shaft rotates opposite of engine
rotation and offsets any engine shake associated with the odd firing
scenario. It's very smooth and pretty high in performance. A couple of
months back I wrote a description of what odd firing actually is in the
mailing list and that should be in the archives.

Still sounds like it's probably a tire issue to me. Most vibrations in the
60-75mph range are due to out of balance or out of round tires. Also,
wheels that have a slight bit of runout can cause this. The DeLorean, along
with some other sports cars, is very susceptable to vibrations due to these
issues. Dunlop used to have a nice article on their site explaining all of
this, but the link seems to be dead. I'll forward it if I find it again.
Try getting the front tires and wheels checked on a Hunter GSP9700
balancing machine. Not only does it check tire balance, but it can check
tire and rim lateral and radial runout, tire uniformity (hard places in the
sidewall that don't flex like the rest of the tire), and improper bead
seating. In other words, most of the problems that can cause vibrations.
Go to http://www.gsp9700.com/
There is a locator to find a shop near you that has one of these.

Doh! Of course it could be as resistance goes down . . . nevermind.

It should work. I just haven't taken the time to sort this out. I just
learned to watch my odometer and fill everytime it gets over 200 miles on a
tank of gas. Too many other things to play with before I get around to
playing with this one.
