The first item to check is to be sure that you have 12 volts at the cooling
fan (blue) socket and by-pass fuses. Let me know the result of your test.

Is there any way to get the paint off? you make it sound hard, so i was just
wondering if it is an easily reversible thing. Also, sean buddy, Chris
pointed out an important thing with the dented fenders hidden by paint: a lot
of people might think that there is some body damage that you hid with bondo
and then just painted.
personally, a rebrushed body that is taken care of or a clear coated body, is
much better looking and also more unique than paint. how many green, yellow
or red cars are out there?

Subject: Key Insert "Flap"
Hello, in lack of a better word I've named this KEY INSERT "FLAP".
I noticed that the outside key insert on my driver's side door is not quite
correct compared to my passenger side door.
On the driver's side, the little "flap" inside the keyhole, which keeps dirt
etc. out of the lock, has jammed on the left side inside the doorlock.
The passenger flap works as its suppose to do, you insert the key, gently
push away the flap with the tip of the key, then open or lock the door.
Withdraw the key, and the little "flap" goes back to its position.
Now, does anyone have a nice little fix, so that I can get that little
"flap" on my drivers side door in order again. I hope its not broken. Minor
problem of course, but since Ive noticed it and am working on the inside of
the door, this would be the perfect time to fix this.
Please help.

I am not a big fan of Painting a D. I personally like the Stainless Steel
look, However I do think it would be interesting to see a D stained so it
would still be stainless steel but with a Dark Black or Blue tint to it.
Dose anyone know if anybody has done this?

David, Tach's normally rest at 6000 or around there when you turn the key
off. After the engins is off, just turn the key back on and then mine goes to
zero. Yours sound alright to me.

It's been a long time, but I remember after buying my first DeLorean
in May '95, I was frustrated with getting technical advice from the
DOA. John Truscott is a nice guy, but calling him in California was a
pain. I had some experience with mailing lists and figured a Delorean
mailing list would be a great way to share information, bring owners
together, as well as get my own questions answered! In August of '95
I started the DML, using no software, just cut and paste and mail out
to a small group (less than 10, I think).

Through word of mouth, postings messages on the old AOL message
boards, a couple months after it started, it got too big to do by
hand, and I paid a company to handle the distribution,
subscribe/unsubscribes, etc. When I learned of Egroups I switched it
there as it was cheaper and a much nicer package. After nearly four
years of running the DML, I took the job as Marketing Director for
DMC (Houston) and called on several longtime DML'ers to take over so
that it wouldn't die out or become lower quality and I would avoid a
potential conflict of interest. Dave, Mike S, Knut, Marty, Bruce,
Dick and now Mike G are doing a great job and I am grateful that took
all stepped up when I called on them.
Had I not created the DML, someone else would have eventually done
something similar. Would it be as good as the DML is today? No one
knows, but most mailing lists are NOT moderated, and the
"signal-to-noise" ratio makes many of them unbearable. The fact that
there are no other DeLorean-related mailing lists/message boards that
have the activity level or quality of content as the DML says a lot
on its own.
I'd like to think that many of the things that people now take for
granted are a result of the existence of the DML, or at least were
available sooner because of the DML. Things I'm talking about include:
Ken Konceliks Cincinnati and Cleveland Car shows
Lee Seilers reproduction keys and limited edition models
All the major parts vendors being online
Marty Maiers 140mph speedos, braided brake lines, etc
Mike Sturbas Window arrow stencils
DMCJoe's broader market success
The successes of local clubs
Two great independent DeLorean poster projects
These are just a few of the things available now that unless their
creators had access to a viable market-size (1000-plus) might not
have been made/organized.
I will be in Cleveland for the show, unless something happens to me
between now and then. I will be acting as the coordinator for the
Concours portion of the event. Please look me up!

Yes Scott, that is correct. The tachometer needle should come to
rest at the last RPM reading when the ignition is switched to the
"OFF" position. It should return to zero when the ignition is
turned to the "ON" position, and yes, we have had this discussion
recently.

maybe I didnt explain my problem good enough. The tach never moves.
when you drive the car it stays at 9000 RPMS even if its in idle. when I put
in the new tach and I received no movement from it at all. what could this
be? I know it stays at wherever the its at when the car turns off. any
ideas?

Been there Done that too! But only once.
Get a piece of the edge guard - like on the back lip of the hood - and
install it on the sharp edge(s) of the gas flap.
In time you will find that there are a lot of places that you can get a
pretty bad slice if you aren't careful. The only good thing is that the
metal isn't rusty so you don't have to worry quite as much about
tetanus.......They make knives out of stainless steel don't they?
Keep a supply of Band-Aids handy.

Group,
I got back one reply on the stuck lock on the drivers side door. I tried
the recommended solution but no dice. Has anyone else out there been locked
out of either door. I have tried unlocking with the key and power locks but
it will not come unstuck. I deduce that I need to get inside of the door
panel but am not sure what to be looking for and where its at. i would
appreciate any suggestions.

Hi All,
I've gotten a lot of questions recently about the Jaguar dimmer switch
that I picked up recently at a swap meet. It is identical in physical
appearance to the DMC dimmer, but as yet I have not been able to
determine which model Jag it is from. I can't even say for sure that it
-is- a Jag part... but the guy who sold it to me said it was, and it was
in a Jaguar box full of other ones just like it.
The Lucas part number is 785268 1176 or 785263 1176 -- I can't tell for
sure because the 3/8 is stamped right across the little seam in the
casing. I'm guessing it's a 3 though.

Apparently you do not have a factory original tachometer that was never properly
installed and/or connected and/or calibrated. The original tachometer is red-lined
at 6500 RPM and reads a max of 8000 RPM.

Seeing as how it has been nearly 15 years since a definitive DeLorean
source was written about the automobile, I was wondering if anyone has
thought about writing a new "Morte d' Lorean" aka "Stainless Steel
Illusion".
What would be the necessary precautions to doing this, aside from
attaining as
much information as one could from the last 20 years or so. Who would
one
have to contact for permission rights? Maybe include a morsel of info
regarding
the "non-existant" New DeLorean.
I know this sounds a little, if not totally farfetched, but I've really
been pondering
this certain dilemma for quite awhile.
