Pot metal housing has a quaint sounding British firm cast into it ("Something" & Sons, England? Can't remember exactly and it's too cold right now to go outside and look). Spindle cable is definitely wound AGAINST predominant left wheel rotation. Is this unit original to my car? My housing is labeled "Smith Motor Accessories Ltd, England" Part #862401/11. Is this an original unit or a replacement? Because the spindle cable is wound AGAINST left wheel rotation, I suspect it was intended for a right hand drive vehicle (which would rotate WITH the windings). My lubrication screw is also upside down on the left wheel, but would be right side up on the other side (are all lubrication screws oriented this way?). If the line pressure is low it can cause this and worse you will slip the clutch packs and wear the frictions out quickly. If the pressure is low as I suspect then clean the filter. There is a procedure on dmcnews.com. If cleaning the filter doesn't help then you either have a blown seal internaly or a worn pump. I would also recheck the gear selector adjustment to make sure it really is in reverse, not halfway there. Also CHECK THE FLUID LEVEL. Too high or too low a level can cause weird problems from the fluid foaming. This is not normal behaviour for a Delorean. Driving it like this can cause serious internal wear and damage. When you check the level look at the color of the fluid. If it is not nice and red flush it out. Dark, burnt smelling fluid indicates extreme wear and/or an overheated transmission. Use Dexron/Mercon Type III. David Teitelbaum vin 10757 on this one: > > (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION)Go out to drive the car. Start car - VROOM. Go drive for a bit as the car warms up as normal. Once the car is warm, I will stop and park go eat, whatever. Come back to car, start car up (Obviously it has warmed up by now). I shift from park to reverse...the car will sit for 2 seconds or so THEN it will shift. It doesn't shift immediately; it shifts after about 2 seconds from taking the shift lever from park to reverse. Obviously this isn't normal. Does anyone have any ideas? It doesn't seem to do this when the car is cold; it only really seems to do this when the car has warmed up. > > > > > --------------------------------- > Do you Yahoo!? > Yahoo! You will probably be very disappointed if you decide to have a shop that is not experienced on Deloreans try to repair it. If the damage is minor you could remove the panels and send them to a "D" vender for repair. If the damage is more serious the cost of the tow will be saved by the reduced time spent repairing the car, the Delorean venders can do things a lot faster (read cheaper) than a local shop that doesn't know what they are doing.
