Like the classic 'turbo' mufflers? These types were designed to overcome the high heat in turbo apps by the diamond baffle pattern. They can still be pretty loud. I had them on my Chevy and didn't like them much. They tended to be very raspy under load. I much preferred the glasspacks I put on later. I tried every muffler manufacturer two years ago looking for something for my D. The only ones I could find that fit were either the Walkers or Supertrapps. It is a very tiny muffler -- 9" body -- and not much of anything else would fit. I was going to repack another set of 21959's as they were only like $9.50 each last I checked. It was actually the Walker tech support fellow who recommended the carbon-fiber packing trick. -Dave -----Original Message----- From: DMCForum@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:DMCForum@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Marc Levy Sent: Tuesday, March 21, 2006 7:47 PM To: DMCForum@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: [DMCForum] Mufflers.. Thanks for the info Dave.. I was looking at some of the "chamber" muffler designs. I know they are not as free-flow as the "packed" mufflers, but I would guess they make less noise.. They also don't ever change their noise level (packed mufflers tend to wear out). Any comment on that idea? --- Dave Stragand <dave.stragand@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > Marc, > > You can tune the sound level of a lot of mufflers by > changing/adding the > packing.
