Strangely, that's how it works. The light bulb is an integral part of
the charging circuit, so if it is burnt out, the alternator will not
charge. It's like that on a large number of vehicles.

Subject: [DMCForum] Alternator Charging Issue
Hello:
I am in process of doing the final steps for my car's upgrade. Today,
got the car idling and noticed the alternator was not charging.
Further testing showed that the battery light does not come on when
you turn the key. The battery light had been working previous to today
when I was turning key over and cracking the car.
Obvious reason is the bulb could be burned out. Are there any other
reasons? If the alternator is shot, would that cause the battery light
not to come on?
Thanks!
Ej
