Someone pointed out an error in my post below about the springs.  I re-read
this and see how it can be taken the way they mentioned.

I did not mean to imply that cutting the springs could change the properties
of the metal; only heating them to the point of distortion will do this.
Cutting should only affect the damping rate and not the properties.

If you heat the springs to the point of distortion then you are altering the
properties of the metal.  You will also be changing the damping rate just as
you will if you cut them.

Personally, if I ever bought a car where I knew the springs were heated or
cut I would trailer the car home.  The springs would be replaced before that
car was ever returned to the road.

Cutting or heating springs is a very bad idea and can be very unsafe.

Buy a cheap set of springs from Josh, and compress them, or sut them 
if you want. As long as you don;t change the structure of the metal 
by turning it molten, then cooling it, you won't lose any properties 
of the spring, except the tall ride height.
