I agree I have seen no tangible, hard copy, printed or verbally authoritative
proof that the "intended front end ride height" was changed from that being lower
than what left the factory.
But... in my derelicted, layman's opinion, Lotus would have to be dumbdonkeys to
come to the conclusion that the "factory" ride height was the best they could do
for this car. After driving on both versions I know the lowered is far superior
in handling over the stock height. I can only trust, assume or have hope in Lotus
that they would know better.
So far I have heard these reasons:
1. supposed bumper height law that never came about
2. supposed headlight height law that never came about
3. strapped for cash they cut a corner with taller springs
4. Colin Chapman wasn't happy that his people made the DMC-12 with better
handling than the Esprit and not do be done up he purposely "mucked-up" the
handling so the Esprit would still be superior.
Robert (in Vegas) recently posted #4 above (Fri, 08 Jul 2005) after hearing it at
the last DMCH Open House. Have you remembered who said this Robert?
James Espey,
Do you have any records of this or know who said it?
Ken K.,
You seem to find very informative factory workers. If this gets tracked down can
you have him/her speak at the DCS Show? I for one LOVE to hear the history of our
car from the "horses mouths" so to speak.

Although I do not currently subscribe, I am a big
supporter of the efforts by you (Ron) and Ken to
produce high quality magazines for DeLorean
enthusiasts that are unbiased (as it usually appears).
However, can we not say this (below), unless there is
proof of the "originally-intended specs"?
I will agree that the car looks more correct with the
lowered springs, but have yet to see any evidence that
this is the intended specs.
