I thought I made that clear in my post:
EGR: I oppose the concept of making an engine breathe its own exhaust.
EGR is a fuel economy measure anyway, not emissions. This particular
system was MUCH larger than the old fashioned diaphragms too, which
put it all in my way.
Smog pump: Again, the plumbing was in the way (couldn't remove
passenger side spark plugs with it in place). Would have been useless
once I put the new exhaust system on anyway.
Thermactor bank: Overlayed the coil, which made installing its wire
difficult. Also had to be removed to remove the driver side valve
cover. And without a smog pump the thermactors have nothing to do.
Jetisoning them also allowed me to jetison those stupid hard plastic
vacuum lines.
The engine compartment looks much less cluttered now. I really don't
like to see a thousand wires & hoses when I pop a hood. I definitely
don't like to work around them. Simplicity used to be a virtue...
