For what it's worth, I agree completely. Parents like this are idiots.
They refuse to acknowledge that their kid is somehow responsible for
his own death. "If only the state would have prevented him from having
a license." Look, you stupid broad, as his parent YOU could have
prevented him from having a license. No child under the age of 18 gets
a license without a parent's involvement, whether that be signing the
paper at the DMV or paying for the driving school most states require
for early licensing. So stop blaming the state and put the blame
squarely where it lies: On you, your kid, and/or tragic circumstance.

Here in Washington they've got these new "graduated licensing" laws...
The kids are prevented from driving at night, driving with friends in
the car, etc, up to a certain age, then these privileges are slowly
added. I think it's silly, personally. My cousin got her driver's
license at 14 in the state of Idaho; I would have, too, had we not
moved to Washington. Both of us were perfectly capable of driving at
that age, and so is any other 14 year old with the proper training.
