[DMCForum] Does the lock module know anything?

I'm installing DPNW's door lock actuator kit today to replace my ailing
solenoids, and figured while I was working with the locks, I'd figure out
what's wrong with my keyless entry (Darryl Tinnerstet's original door
launcher system), which mysteriously stopped working reliably a while
back.
I'm able to lock my doors remotely, but I can't unlock them. I figured it
would be a simple broken connection, but it's looking more complex than
that.
If I'm reading my schematics right, the locks should activate if I short
to ground either the brown/slate or brown/pink wire going into the lock
module (a Lockzilla in my case). This works, but not reliably. Sometimes
the locks will move like they should, while other times nothing happens at
all. (I should stress that this problem is not related to the DPNW
actuators.)
Does the lock module have any idea if the car is locked or unlocked, or
does it just blindly activate the locks either way? If it's smart, is it
perhaps getting confused as to whether my car is locked or unlocked? If
it's dumb, any other ideas?
