Nor do I. One of the reasons I am saving for a D is
because it is affordable on my salary (or less); I was
inspired to shoot for it when I found out how
affordable it was, and I know a few people also who
like it because you don't have to be fabulously
wealthy to enjoy it.

FYI Greg, I think I would chalk up his comments to a
simple lack of people skills.
