Bob,
The story goes that if you lock your doors while they are open (unlatched), it
is possible to bend the linkage rods. Often times we accuse each other of
propogating faulty information due to urban myth or rumor but I feel on solid
ground with this one.
Toby Peterson's doorlock actuator instructions specifically direct you to latch
the doors in the open position while installing and testing his lock actuators for
this reason.
Toby has a good rep within the community and I am inclined to trust someone
who was responsible for making sure that engines were mounted on jumbo
jets correctly as Toby was in his past career.
