Hey, I really tried to help my customers.
Most of the other tech support guys were full of shit.
They would give out the lamest advice like "defragging the drive" and stuff
like that.
The people who ended up getting ME on the phone were the people who asked
for
the manager and said they were "going to sue us" and stuff like that.
I remember once we were having one of those famous mid-western tornato
warnings, the lights went out and the sirens were going off.... I stayed on
the phone
with the customer (without computer or lights) because the phone worked
without
electricity.
I got the guys DVD player to work on his new system.
When I told the guy why I couldn't look up something he asked by telling him
that I was sitting in a horrible storm and the power was out, and the other
500
emplyees were in the cafiteria talking in the dark - I was the ONLY guy
still on the phone.
The customer later told my bosses about it, and they gave me a raise and
stereo system.
It was a laid back job, 10 hour shifts... I have a TV and video player in my
cube, I had
a microwave, a toaster oven.... I would make meals and watch movies while I
was
wearing a headset and helping customers.
I held the top call time, and most resolutions in the company for a while.
One day I cracked and quit.
I could see I was going nowhere and I didn't want to do phone tech support.
I left and then became cheif engineer of AIN television network.
Nice move.
