Seeing those rivets sheared off like that reinforces (no pun) my idea to use
nuts and bolts instead.  Can you Dremel off the ears of the retaining plate?
Did you think about removing the rear glass and letting it spin to unload?

Jack, if you want to replace the entire rear metal piece check with Josh
Haldeman.  The last time I was at his place he had one or two.  One had four
little rivets through the top, though.

I just put together a quicky web page of the door adjustment
& torsion bar fiasco we had this weekend.  All you people
take a look and give us some suggestions on where to proceed
from here.  We cant get that damn retaining plate off the
torsion bar.
