Until you can locate and correct the battery drain, why not install a battery kill switch. Mine is located on the battery cover under the carpet. It is hidden and can be accessed by reaching over from the driver's seat. The marine supply stores sell a heavy duty one that's easy to install.

Lauren,
While most people don't rebuild the Motorola because of the power out put,
the only problem will be is keeping the battery charged with it. When it
heats up the alternator will only put out maybe 80 amps tops. It will work
but marginal. There were also very prone to melt. It will probably do it
again over time. 13.5 is good when your driving. If you turn on the AC /
blower motor and lights watch the battery meter to drop below 13 volts.

Since this is the first time I've had to post in a while, here's my
burning (not literally!) question. I've been following the thread
about battery drain because I have the same problem.
What in the electrical system would cause the battery to drain? My
D doesn't have a clock, I don't even have a stereo and all the dash
lights and the fans go off when I turn the engine off. I was really
trying to get to Auto Zone to get my battery tested today but I ran
outtatime.
When I had the D in the shop, without my consent they had the old
alternator rebuilt. By the time is was rebuilt and they told me, I was
annoyed but I said I'd give it a try. It was the original Motorola and
they had it rated to 90 amps. Could this be a factor? The dash
guage shows 13.5 volts when I drive.
This leads me to another question -- the alternator was fine when I
brought it to them but they told me it was "burned out." What could
have happened?
And a word about Optimas --- I'm on my second pair of yellow tops
in my truck and I can't say enough good things about them. The
first pair outlasted its projected lifespan by TWO years.
