The smear campaign backfired and started generating support for
Kerry so the site was shut down.  Even some republicans came forward
to accuse swiftvets of make false accusations.  Also ties to the
Bush Administration came to light and made things look even worse.

Swift Boat Veterans for Truth is backed by a top Bush supporter from
Houston, Texas and is coordinated by a former Reagan administration
staffer whose husband ran for lieutenant governor in Texas alongside
George W. Bush.
