Re: [DMCForum] Re: American Custom Engineering

I talked to a few people pushing 250-300hp with stock transmission, and
have heard a couple accounts of input shaft shearing. The gear ratios
would have been too tall for a higher-rpm running engine. I contacted
the DML at the time, no one offered any suggestions for getting beefier
components or changing diff ratio.

I originally had intended to keep the stock transmission, but said to
myself: "y'know, if I get this whole thing together and rip this
transmission in half, I'm going to be pissed!". Chasing after upgrades
and replacements seemed like a pain in the ass, so I bought a
transmission made to work in the same orientation and was made for a car
that came with 270 HP stock (at 6100rpm Bill). Supposedly the porsche
transmissions are very beefy for the HP that they come with stock. Plus
it had an extra gear. Plus it wasn't a renault (sorry martin). I hope
we can agree that the germans make better cars than the french.

I don't know if american custom really did modify the renault, but when
you really come down to it, the renault un1 is a $500 transmission, and
the porsche g50 is a $4000+ transmission.
