I think it would be very very close to fitting.  Take a look at ebay 
item# 7912858346  That fwd diff is sitting on a 5gal can for size 
refference.

If you are serious about this project give LA Porsche a call 818-PORSCHE 
(767-7243) they have a bunch of wrecked cars with good drivetrains at 
very affordable prices.  I saw an 80's Turbo they had sold for $9k, car 
had under 100k miles and the damage wasn't that bad.
