I've used the outside- grabby type with two "hooks" on the bottom, 2
hooks on the top, and the two connected by a screw.

LIke Walt said, I had problems grabbing on to the spring high enough.  I
took the upper hook off the screw and "thread" it up the spring by
sliding it up (helically) between the gaps in the spring.  Once it was up
there, i screwed the screw back into it.
