[DMCForum] DeLorean Valdez -- Damage Identified

Entire top of my Renault block was flooded with coolant when I removed
the water pump. Left it there for diagnostic purposes (one weekend
isn't going to corrode anything -- cylinders sit in bathtubs of
coolant, for crying out loud). Has allowed me to isolate the oil leak,
based on which recesses remain flooded versus which leaked down:

Bearing #3 has leaked on driver's side to the top of the oil galley,
where it spills over to passenger side, but no futher. No problem.

Bearing #3 on passenger side has leaked past the top of the oil
galley. Apparently that is where it is compromised (oil had to be
coming out under pressure, given its copious amount). Has not leaked
to the bottom of the recess, so the crankcase remains intact.

All other recesses are still flooded to the top.

Will be a simple affair to patch this block. Since I'd much prefer
doing so out of the car, am using the opportunity to try my best to
pull off a carb'ed replacement in time for Pigeon Forge (curiosity as
much as anything else -- wouldn't it be something if a domestically
carbureted PRV performs as well as K Jetronic!). Was well into
engineering on a Carter YF before I discovered the air filter would
simply make it too tall to close the engine cover. Have switched gears
to a Motorcraft 2150 instead (traded tall and compact for low and fat).

A lot of work remains. Three weeks and counting. Wish me luck...

Technicalities: A series manifold has single 2 3/4" venturi, for a
bizarre elbow adapter (Volvo carb sits at 45 degree angle). Motorcraft
venturi are 1 11/16" apiece. Am making an adapter to mate the two.
