Another danger of towing the Delorean backwards is the fact that you will
rip the rear louver off of the car.

Why in the world would you try to dolly it backwards? No one ever does that.
I'm a big fan of tow dollys. They're easier to control than a trailer. You
don't need any special wiring (just run temporary wires from the dolly's
lights to your own tail/brake lights). Weigh just a fraction of a trailer.
UHaul used to rent them $50 per day (3 day minimum).
I do NOT trust dolly wheel straps -- bring some extra come alongs and tie
the chassis to the dolly itself.
Also, criss cross the safety chains under the tongue. Should it come loose
from the ball, chains will hold it up.
Isn't your DeLo a straight drive? If so, you don't even need to remove the
drive axles.
7,000 lbs GTW is well into Class III. You'll hardly notice the car until you
get to the mountains (be careful with that transmission fluid). I dollyed a
5,000 lbs Lincoln through the mountains of PA and MD with my F150.
