RE: [DMCForum] Re: Loss of Power/Flat acceleration (Long, but worth reading)

The ground shield just helps ground induced current from high voltage wires.
Primarily, it's a radio interference trap and is not extremely necessary --
in fact, it has no effect on performance but if it's on there, ground it
(otherwise it traps the current and can give you a hell of a jolt with the
engine running.  Ask me about my Accel stainless braided wires on my Chevy).

The cable does not come out of the sheath that I know of, but you can
replace it with a non-shielded one.  On the same subject, have you replaced
your wires yet?  Remember when we put it on the Bear?  You had at three bad
cables that I remember.  It's a resistance test... but basically I would
just replace them all if any are bad.

Marc,

On that note, the primary coil-to-distributor wire has a giant mesh
shield on it, with a little ground pigtail. How necessary is this?
How do I get the cable out of the shield to install a new one?

Thanks,

Rich
