Are you sure its rust that killed the evaporator and not
someone trying to pull the connections apart? Those
aluminum pipes can't take rough handling. Often the
connections seize together and require heat to get them
apart.
I have a new copper evaporator I bought from PJ Grady. I'm
not using it because it's copper, and I prefer the more
efficient OEM style aluminum design. I'll make you a deal
on it. Also consider repairing your original. I had both
pipes replaced on one where a previous monkey bent them to
hell.
While you have the a/c out of your dash, consider going
through and cleaning all the rust off the flapper doors,
painting them and replacing all the rotten foam.

get to?
The orifice sits in the thinner pipe leading into the
evaporator. It's easy to "get to" but not always easy to
take apart.
