Maybe it's just your explanation, but it sounds like you are plugging
your heater core line and running a new one after the thermostat.  This
would be rather foolish, as you wouldn't get heat to the heater until
after the car warms up to running temperature and the thermostat opens. 

This wouldn't be the biggest deal in Florida I guess, but the next owner
would certainly call you "that damn PO".
