I used this on a truck I painted so my experience was on the paint and not bare metal. The guy that sold me the stuff said the smooth surface of the paint would not allow the urethane to properly adhere so it had to be primed. One thing I did learn the hard way not to use the primer on the glass. Almost zero stickage.
