Bill, it seems like it would be more elegant to pull the #1 spark plug and
stick a rod in the hole.  Move the crank until the rod is at the highest
point.  Would this work?  It would sure beat taking the valve cover off
(unless you wanted a good excuse to adjust the valve lash.)
