[DMCForum] T-panel wire access point...

Today I removed most of the rear panels, along with the T-panel, in
preparation for fiberglass repair work due to the accident. Under the
T-panel at the connector access point was something I didn't expect. The
cover was a piece of metal cut in the shape of a rhombus, just like the
one
for the engine cover latch access.

This piece was very heavily sealed with a ton of black silicon and then
covered over with what looks like something that used to be duct tape.
There were two holes in the cover panel but no matching holes in the
fiberglass. There appears to have been no water intrusion from this
point.
Was this sealed like this from the factory? Mine is a very early
production
car. It appeared to be doing its job even if it wasn't factory.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Greg
