Re: [DMCForum] Re: Adam's fender bender today (and hood bender, and fascia smasher etc)

Well having only driven my car above 50mph once I really cant say much
about
actual performance. But you have to remember that they are 20 years old
and
should be completely worked over. My car only has 20k miles and the pads
were probably fine but I replaced them anyway.

And remember break fluid is hygroscopic, absorbs water. That water will
boil in the calipers when they get hot and you wont stop. I have
experience
with this, luckily I did more damage to my dad's van than my ghia's nose.
I
stepped on the breaks and they started to stop then the peddle just went
soft and I kept going. I have had break lines pop, oil get on a rotor,
and
even had a caliper fall off. In all of those situations I was able to
stop
but not with the old fluid.

brakes are not the best. Since most of us probably only drive our own cars
we probably dont know what other cars brakes feel like or what our brakes
should feel like. I always try and leave plenty of room in front of me
but
in the rain anything can happen....
