I am thinking Dave is pretty much god or Superman, or something closely
related.  Is there anything you can't do?  I think that list would be
shorter than what you can do.

That has to do with DNS (that's what I do for a living).

In order to do this, you need access to both your DNS zone files and
likely the server as well.  You'll either need to do host headers for
each site, or have a separate IP for each subsite.  If you're having
this site hosted by a third party (ie not your own server), I can
guarantee they will not do this for you without charging $.

However, you could do www.dmcforum.org/somethingorother without anyone
else's assistance.
