[DMCForum] Re: "Chassis lube" question: RESOLVED

On my DeLorean I never knew there were zirks until I went to clean
the upper suspension arms. They were caked with dirt and grease from
90,000 miles of driving. I had to use a chisel to scrape the build-
up off :(

> My other vehicle is a Suburban, too. Together with a DeLorean, the
two can handle just about any transportation issues I need. :-)

Amen!

I talked with the manager of the shop. Apparently, one or two of the
zerks had been overlooked for the past 15,000 miles (so it looked
like they had never been touched). I watched the service tech this
time as he put the grease gun on all the zirks... the sad thing was
that he didn't wipe the dirt off - so now I have dirt inside my ball
joints wearing them down. You just can't win!

My advice would be to wipe the zirks down before taking the car in
for a lube, then kneel down and watch the guy do it correctly.
Because of the dirt I might take the car to the dealer to have them
remove the seals and clean out the dirt, then re-grease.
