Sorry Walt. You are mistaken.
No Version of TankZilla has EVER had an external power source. 
It has always worked without the need for external power.

FYI:
All 3 wires that feed the stock DeLorean Fuel Sender are essentially,
ground 
lines.
With a design challenge like that, the solution wasn't easy.
