RE: [DMCForum] electric De Lorean...

Dave,

I am not sure if you meant this as a response to my post or not. I was
just
passing along what was told to me by a business associate who seemed
impressed by the people he met, not that I was supporting his efforts. I
was a student of physics and engineering for many years and understand
what
he is presenting is just not feasible.

The pictures of the unveiling look to me like a lot of people investing
money never to be seen again but one has to wonder who is more greedy.
There
are a few updates posted to that site relating to recent test results that
are questionable as well. I also tried a few times to download the .AVI
but
was unable to do so.

I have heard of other carburetor claims like that, although not the "Fish"
brand, and I have one somewhere in my files under a different name. There
was a related invention that was to be installed inline to your carburetor
in the fuel line that was supposed to perform similar miracles although I
do
no recall that name either.

Greg

Energy expended = energy lost to frictions (loss) + energy to propel
vehicle (kinetic energy)

But this guy is claiming that while the car is moving:

Energy created = Energy of vehicle being propelled (kinetic energy)

Thus, if:

Energy expended = Energy created (like he claims), then, by using
substitution of the equations above:

Energy of vehicle being propelled (kinetic energy) = energy lost to
frictions (loss) + energy to propel vehicle (kinetic energy)

So, removing kinetic energy from both sides leaves -only- energy lost to
frictions (loss), so even assuming pefect electrical efficiency
(unlikely), they have to overcome ALL aerodynamic drag as well as
friction in the bearings, etc. to achieve their formula.

This is one of the first laws of physics -- energy can not be created or
destroyed; it can only shift its form. There is loss (in the form of
heat due to friction) throughout this whole equation... So unless this
guy has found a way around the laws of physics that rule our universe,
it simply can't happen. There is no such thing as a perpetual motion
machine, and there is no way this guy can get that car 1600 miles on
four lead-acid batteries. Or 8, or even 12 for that matter.
Nonetheless, if anyone chooses to believe this guy, they and their money
will soon be parted.

PS- The Fish carburetor was claimed to give cars 200 miles per gallon
efficiency. It never even came close, but he got a lot of free
publicity saying how the oil companies were trying to destroy him. He
sold a lot of them to gullible folks who believed his impossible claims,
but most who found themselves disappointed quietly resigned themselves
to having been screwed, as it would have been too embarassing to have to
admit to their friends that they were totally duped.
