Oh a little clue about the government involvement.  If
Tilley actually had any truth to his scam, it would have
produced ionizing radiation which he probably would not have
been aware of.  If he tried to patent it then the
radioactivity would have been discovered.  Since this would
be producing exotic radioactive isotopes, the government
would certainly clamp down on it to prevent nuclear power
from falling into the wrong hands.  And certainly they would
have to confiscate Tilley's DeLorean because it could be a
radioactive toxic waste site.
