Walt,

That is the bane of digital cameras, even the high end ones. They 
automatically give you a "flat" picture out of the camera, then you 
have to tweak it in Photoshop. One must be more of a Photoshop 
expert than a photographer it seems.

If you previously used Fuji film, especially Velvia, then you will 
probably never be happy with the digital. The digital camera's 
sensor cannot reproduce the dynamic range of film - yet.

Scanning film is a pain, but film is still the way to go for the 
important stuff. Digital is convenient, but with everything, there 
are compromises.
